How do i get into the sport?
Hi
I have been flying with my Ozone Flow 5m with handles on the beach for some time now, but I just want to try something new. I have been looking at
Landboarding for some time now, but I don't know how to get into the sport, so i got some questions:
1) I don't got a lot of money, so is it possible for me to use my Flow kite?
2) Do I need a harness, if yes - Which one should i get?
3) What Landboard should i get? I weight about 75-70 kilo grams (165-175 pounds). The board will be used at the beach. A beach with sand and a lot of
small stones.
What else should I know about Landboarding?
Regards and that you,
Kaka

Welcome to the forum... Good to hear you've been getting some time in on a 5m!
1) flow will work fine, you'll need enough wind to be able to scud easily before the landboard will work, this also depends on how rough / wet / hard
the beach is. smooth/dry/hardpack sand is best.
2) no you don't need a harness, but your arms will get pumped! If you get more into the sport, youll want more kites and a harness.
3) your beach should be packed hard enough to ride a bike on pretty easily, if it isn't you'll have a problem getting going on a landboard. The
small stones could be a problem, loose sand is a bigger one. the used landboard market is pretty random, and location can be a big factor. You don't
need much beyond something that will turn and not break beneath you to begin with, but to buy intellegently used you might need to do more research.
Try going though all the longer landboarding threads on this and other forums (kitecrowd is also good), go back a couple years and settle in for an
evening of reading. But if your local beach isn't right for landboarding, a landboard will be of no use.
Lots more to know about landboarding, but it's my friday night, gotta go!
Research, mate... Lots of research... Should be easy if you have the bug for real!
fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....
sting 1.7, dp power 2.5, crossfire 3.2, ace 5, blade iv 6.5, ace 8, ace 12...
also a couple of arcs, 12 syn and 12 phanny, but i\'m not yet up to speed on them.

Thanks for the reply!
Im a bit worried for the beach. Ill go there on Sunday and ride a bike on the beach :D
About the harness: When I look around on youtube it looks like most of the riders are using a harness with bar - not handles. Do i need a special
harness or some special equipment for the harness to use it with handles??

If you are worried about your beach odds are it isn't hard packed enough for ATB ?
Our beaches seem hard at low tide but it is a huge struggle getting my ATB to run. A bike is minimum. Best beaches are those a car can drive on.
If money is an issue your best bet for a board is the for sale section here and your local ones. Shipping a board costs a bit so needs to be
considered.
If the sand is too soft for a board consider a kite buggy. You can buy a used one for just a little more than a board.
Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.
Flysurfer : 19m Speed 2 SA, 7m Pulse
Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.
Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

Do you know good places to buy a kite buggy/landboard? I live in Denmark, so it would be nice if the shop is located in Europe

Denmark - well that is a Mecca for kite flyers especially buggies that go to Fanø and Rømø.
The largest international gathering of kite flyers takes place every year around mid June at Fano with hundreds and hundreds of kite flyers from
around the world and a huge number that go to buggy and landboard. Check the German or Dutch forums for a lot of discussions as well.

I'll have to look on the map to see Klimøller aka Cold Hawaii - that sounds fun. You might find a Danish kite forum as well.
just typing kite stores Denmark into google here is one directory list
http://www.kite-shops.com/kiteshops/country/Denmark/
How far would you need to drive to go to other beaches? Living in Canada it sounds funny to me when people don't like driving 30 minutes to kite - the
beaches that we use to buggy or surf are minimum 1 1/2 - 2 hr drive each way and we don't think twice about it but it does start to add a lot of money
in gas to the cost of kiting for a day, the parking....and a cold beer after :wink2:

To get to the nearest beach, which is Cold Hawaii, I need to drive for about 1 1/2 hour. Buy my parents got a little house out there, so a weekend
with the kite isn't bad :D
Ive been looking at these to boards:
MBS Atom 95x
Scrub Psycho
They cost almost the same. What do you say to these boards? Which is better?

I've also been looking at the Ozone Acess XC Harness. What do you think about that? It comes in 2 different versions, but I really can't figure out, what the difference is?
