front fender

I saw a post by Todd for a DYI front fender from 6" pvc elbow...turned out awesome and I wanted to do one myself...problem is standard fork for flexifoil. Other then purchasing (not going to do) a wide fork does anyone have pictures or suggestions for an alternative. Really want to get rid of the spray guard. What I don't want is some cob job looking thing. I really want it to look nice and professional.
Looked at Van's fenders too and made 2 already myself but not knowing how to weld seam is a small problem. This also makes me worry about foot coming off peg, bouncing off the ground and then slicing ankle on sheet metal. Any thoughts/suggestions would be great.

What is wrong with the fork? To narrow, not enough room above the tire?
For temp Fast Brian used a cat litter jug he found and cut it to fit.
You could also try heavy vinal and rivit it so it stays in shape.

Hopefully pics work....Not so computer savy with adding attachments...Anyway...Here is the 3rd one. Still unhappy as it just doesn't look right so......thats what you get for being anal and ADD...

What type of plastic would you use to do this instead of sheetmetal?
Any suggestions to help or constructive criticism is welcomed...

That points to a pic on your computer... short of inviting all of us over, we can't see it.

"DSC" usually is a direct from camera pic and if it is over 1 MB, you might have problems attaching it.

Not big on sheet metal for anything that close to unprotected ankles, especially if it shears in a crash.

In addition to PVC, polyethylene, HDPE, polypropylene, and similar plastics would probably be good candidates. You'll probably want to opt for something that is UV-stable.

Feel free to email me the pic if you want it posted.

Are you running barrows, wides or BFs?

Sam

For tools, it would probably help if you have a detail or palm sander, a rotary tool (Dremel is probably too small, but something like a Rotozip or similar would work) with cutoff wheel, sanding block, and assorted files/reaming tools.

Not sure how much free time you will have in the next 14 days, but it looks like you have 4 options:
  1. Todd's method: DIY Front Fender on an Ivanpah. Depending on your wheel size you might be able to go with a smaller size elbow.

  2. Van's method: New Fork and Fender for BW Buggy. Basically taking a flat sheet of plastic and "broadseaming" it.

  3. Measure out the fender size you would need and source the part from elsewhere (i.e. fender parts for motorcycles, pocket bikes, 3-wheel ATVs, etc). The part would be complete for the most part and the only part you would have to fabricate is the attachment method and adding a "mudflap" if you wanted (nude lady silhouette is optional).

  4. Learn to rock the "manly sand & seaweed between your teeth" look.
Hope that helps.

ATB,
Sam
