MRI, Healing and ...

First of all, apologies for making a new thread about my knee.

Just wanted to let you know that I met with the doctor yesterday who had suspected my injury was 100% rupture of my PCL. He was almost right. I had the MRI today and met with the doctor shortly after. MRI shows about 75% rupture/tear in the PCL and some minor medial meniscus damage. Tomorrow I go back to get fitted for my knee brace which I will wear for about 2 months. All in all, I think this is good news, because 1. No surgery, 2. Shorter recovery time, 3. Better healing, 4. Cheaper. In total, it will cost me about $500, which isn't bad considering.

I also want to mention here that I will be making the switch from land to water. For whatever reasons, I have now gotten hurt pretty badly twice since getting into kiting from impacting the hard land, and I have literally only been out kiting properly a handful of times. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE it minus the injuries. But probably the biggest reason for making the switch is this - land accessibility. I live in a country that is 90% mountains with a gazillion people smashed into a small area, so finding space and conditions suitable for land kiting has proven more than frustrating AND expensive. The nearest place to kite is 2 and a half hours away (without traffic)! And if you thought gas prices in The States is getting ridiculous, literally double it and that's what it is in Korea. As for water - Korea is a peninsula and I live less than an hour from the coast and 15 minutes from the Han River. I suppose I would have started out kitesurfing had I known all this beforehand, or even known where I was going to be living this year. Now I know.

So, please understand when you see a gaggle of kites being posted For Sale by me, that this is by no means a rash decision. It's actually been a long time coming. My knee injury was just one more reason.

Good to hear... I guess. It could always be worse, eh.

Water can still mess you up :D but it's a lot less punishing... most of the time.

I started off landboarding here to get kite/board skills up to spec but have the same problem as you - limited space. I found a usuable spot (see my early youtube videos) but had problems with the half-wits who are employed to do the gardening...

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Glad you will get off without surgery.

Water offers far more options here as well. What you say is logical. It is a VERY good idea to take a lesson before heading out on the water. Their are rules and self recue methods that you need to know .

Although there are less folks on this forum who ride water than land it is still the same easy going bunch. Don't drop the forum just because your moving to water.

Thanks guys. Definitely! I did take kitesurfing lessons in the Philippines years ago but yes I am thinking some lessons again wouldnt be all that bad. I will still be on this forum, for sure. Yes, great folks here it seems.

Well, in the meantime wish me luck on mastering some home brews. Gotta keep myself busy til I heal up, right? :)
