What kind of gps units are most running? Price? and can you have one that will double duty if I don't have one for the car?

I hit my top speed at WBB this year at around 40mph but only know because I asked someone behind me that said 36mph and I know at times I was going much faster.....underwear prove it! I'M HOOKED...:smilegrin:

Most buggiers I see use the little yellow Garmin Etrex. Small, reliable, tells you all you need to know and has good battery life. And cheap! I originally had a Magellan Triton......till one day it came up with a fatal error message on the screen. When I contacted Magellan, they said they would have to re-flash the software and it would cost me $114.00. I politely told them to shove it up their %&* and bought the Garmin!

I still have the Magellan with the 'fatal error' message - if anyone can use or recycle it, I'll post it to you for nix.

I have an etrex by Garmin as well and it does our job just great. I also have 2 Delorme Earthmates and they are a step up from the etrex if you want to use the gps for things other than a buggy speedo, such as load aerial photographs of an area you are going to do an outdoor activity in. The PN-40 was on sale with a $100 software package included a month ago for $125 so they aren't always a real premium price.

I second the Garmin Etrexs. Great little units, easy to use and pretty reliable. They are prone to spikes sometimes but you can scrub the data easy. The other I use a GT-31 as my other unit. Very accurate, rediculous long battery life, not quites as user friendly as the Garmin units but more reliable, more accurate and recognized by the speed sailing bla blahs.

And it floats.

The only thing I don't like about it is the control toggle. It;s nice and works well but can easily get bumped in a crash. I've lost data that way.

And if you want the fancy Schmancy multi tasker you can always go for the Recon Transcend goggles. Goggle with GPS integrated and H.U.D. High coolness factor and super convenient. www.reconinstruments.com

I forgot the recons because I need some quiet time to sit down with the instructions. Cool factor is through the roof! I can only see my buggy mounted gps display while going in one direction and then it might have dust covering it. The HUD is going to have the speed right there even at speed. Instant feedback as to what works for speed.
