Jekyll Island after JIBE *video* back on with vimeo
So I've been vacationing with family on Saint Simons Island, GA which is the neighboring island to the kite buggy mecca, Jekyll Island. Since I was
not able to make it to JIBE, I made arrangements to meet up with Angus, to ride JI's beaches and pick Angus's brain and learn more ins and outs of the
buggy seat.
We met up Wednesday with the perfect scenario of SE winds at 9-13mph and ran up and down the beach until Angus had to leave. I stayed a bit longer and
Don from Kiteplace.com (who was still hanging out after JIBE was long over) showed up with his bug and a couple of beamers and went at it until after
I left.
I tried again to overcome with the 5m Core, but just felt too overpowered so I switched back to the 3m beamer and had a great time running up and down
the beach, weaving between toddlers, their parents, and sandcastles while Angus sat back and relaxed with his 15m Phanny 1.
I've always loved John Holgate's videos because you can see the kite, the pilot and the bug all in the shot and still get that "in the buggy seat"
feeling. So in the interest of that, I threw together a Holgate style camera mount from some metal conduit, threaded rod, scrap aluminum pieces, and a
U bolt attached to my rear axle. While I don't yet have a GoPro, I do have a compact camera that I could mount on the bug to see what I could capture.
The lens on that camera is not as wide angled as the GoPro, but I think I got some decent footage.
I spent some time in imovie and came up with this... enjoy Jekyll after JIBE:
https://vimeo.com/42873302
Many thanks to Angus for getting together with me and teaching me what he did,... jibe after jibe ... after JIBE
*edit: as much trouble as I have with vimeo, they don't seem to have the copyright issues that youtube has so give that a whirl.
I'm going to take a nap now

Sorry, I exported the .m4v file in a medium format, probably too big for smart phones...
it looks way cooler full screen on a big screen anyway!

Just use youtubes edit function and substitute their music for whatever you used and at least we'll be able to see it. WMG and UMG have blocked your
video on copyright grounds. I can't understand why they block what is essentially free advertising.

Ditto. What really cheezes me off is when they don't believe that I hold the copyright on my OWN material I think it's because I don't have an ISRC number. I would have to pay another site $50 or so to get me a number
so it can be recognized internationally as belonging to me. Same with iTunes....without that number, it's no dice. I've gotten round it a few times
with youtube after lengthy explanations but sheeeshh, I wish they'd just believe me when I say I wrote it.
I've used all sorts of music on Vimeo and never been questioned about it - but they do say, if the music publisher complains to them, they'll take my
video off.

Like it Very nice looking beach too. I would make a little holster
for the buggy to put your kite stake in.....don't think I'd like it in my pocket if I took a tumble.....
Camera mount is working well.

Thanks John, but I put the sleeve that the stake comes on a caribeener (sp?) and clip it to a belt loop,... it just looks like its going in my pocket.
I don't want anything in my hands but the handles in case things get out of control.
I can post a pic of the mount if you want to see it's make up.

It's probably pretty good in it's holster...I'm just thinking of getting pulled out of the bug and landing on it at right angles. Because I use the
bar most of the time, I hook the brake strap around the back wheel, so rarely use the stake. When I do use the stake, I pull the buggy up to it, take
a seat, grab the handles with the brakes on, then pull the stake and stow it on the downtube. Then launch from the bug. I also learned not to launch
too side on in soft sand - ended up wearing the vmax on my head with all the controls disappearing under my legs and no sight of the kite - very
dangerous, but I was lucky the kite went nose down and stayed there. I'm a bit more careful where I point the buggy on launch now!

Donnie, I got a similar sized bruise from the rivet on a Levi pocket...
Couldn't believe something so small could do that. Golfball must have hurt like hell:ticking:

ok, well I will definitely do something different with the stake.
I'm certainly excited to head back to Jekyll. I'm planning to get back there maybe later this summer, but definitely in early October. The wife and
kids are planning a trip with my inlaws so I'm planning to camp and kite Jekyll.
I had hoped the camera would be able to catch the kite too but I found it just looked better to get more forward motion shots since my camera doesn't
have quite the wide angle of a GoPro. I think it turned out decent despite that,... Bob is right I certainly got the "permagrin" shot.
