Where to kite ATB in San Francisco?

Hi Guys -

My first post on this forum. I've been flying power kites for some years now and just bought my first ATB/Mountainboard.

What spots in San Francisco do people kite ATB or buggy? I was at Ocean Beach a few days ago and the sand was a bit too soft to really get moving (I only have a 3.5M bullet kite, maybe it's too small?).

Are there any areas nearby that have harder soil and good wind?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Claudio

Welcome to the forum,
I heard someone is kiting in GG park but try Ocean beach again in low tide.I don't have problems with soft sand just stay next to wather where sand is hard packed and try to avoid weekends because of crowd.Your kite will work in winds 15+ and 9 inch tire make a big difference.
Here is link for wind and tide http://funston.appweb.org/webcam.htm
Cheers

Thanks Zloty!

I'll try it again. From your pictures, it definitely looks quite a bit more hard-packed than when I was out at Ocean Beach.

I noticed that you also have an MTB Comp 16. Did you put 9 inch tires on your board also? Maybe I should look into buying some new, larger wheels. Right now I am on the stock 8s.

Thanks for your help. Maybe I'll run into you one of these days.

I'm from the UK and am staying in San Francisco for the next couple of days before heading off to Calgary. It would be cool to meet any local kiters - I've brought my Flysurfer Voodoo 10m and MBS Comp 6 with me from England.

I'm gonna try to get down to Ocean Beach tomorrow or Friday - is it actually legal to kite in GG Park? Just checking :D

Hey there TJatherton-

Not sure if it's legal to kite in GG Park.
Probably going to try to hit Ocean Beach on Saturday am.
Be sure to check tides because there's not much usable beach at high tide.

As far as I can make out, best place on Ocean Beach is at the very northern end just south of the rocks.

Have fun!
