getting permission for a premium spot.
OK guys there is an area in Oklahoma called the great salt plains. It looks to be about 5x5 miles. It is off limits to any kind of traffic. Due to
the snowy plover and a crane that nests there. I am going to try and see if I can't get this area opened up to us. It is a salt flat just as the name
implies. As far as I know the birds don't actually live out on the flats. Any suggestions as to what to do. I already called the park. They heard
the word "buggy" and immediately said no.

Well I called and asked about bicycles. Apparently the area isn't even open to the public so it's a no go. There is a small 1 mile long section that
they do have open where people go dig crystals. Not sure if it's worth the trouble for only a mile of lake bed.

Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge - "By law, national wildlife refuges are closed to all public use activities unless
expressly permitted. Hunting, fishing, and certain other public uses are permitted on portions of the refuge. The regulations listed in the Fishing
and Hunting Regulations supplement the general regulations that govern public use on national wildlife refuges as set forth in Title 50, Code of
Federal Regulations."
Looking at the FWS Map the crystal digging area is well south of the Salt Flats. The Flats themselves seem to be totally off-limits with only
observation towers at the perimeter.
Doesn't look terribly promising. If you wish to pursue, I would contact Fish and Wildlife Service and/or the Army Corps of Engineers.... both have a
fairly large presence/claim there.
