Getting the wrinkles out (Century II 6.7 Video)

I put together a short video of my maiden flight with the PKD Century II 6.7. I had the privilege of flying Jeff’s (BKK) 6.7 at SOBB so I already know how well it performs when being used for what it was designed for. It’s a fantastic buggy engine but how will it perform in low wind static flying? I have to admit I was a little concerned that my static flying would become limited with my new quiver. Well the Century did surprisingly well! The wind (Breeze) was a low 3.4mph and at times was 0, It was a little hard to launch but I managed to get it to launch the first try. Once it was powered up I felt relieved that it was going to perform in these conditions, I was amazed with how well it responded from brake input. There is no way I could fly my Viper with a short strop in that low of wind as I never use a strop or harness while flying static. The Century recovered very well from stalls and the reverse launch was cake ( I will have to try some brake adjustment next time and see if that improves the regular launch), it also gave me a much larger window to fly in. my only complaint would have to be the bag, I like to para pack and the bag made that difficult, otherwise I am very pleased with my upgrade. Hope you enjoy the vid http://youtu.be/D84WAN3GGcY

Very nice vid. I also flew that 6.7 a lot during SOBB and I was quite amazed by it (enough to where I wanted to be part of the team :) It's stable and light enough to where I was still able to keep it in the air and buggy when the wind dropped to about 5 mph and was a real thrill when the winds were reaching close to 20, what a range. I too was a bit concerned at first about the short strop length but quickly went from getting use to it to really liking it. As it turns out I'm only using about half of it's length while riding and that includes riding the dunes where I thought the short strop would be a real problem.

I heard a great description for the PKD Century II's the other day from a well respected kiter with a lot of experience in the racing world that I could not agree with more. "They are racing kites for the less experienced". Meaning that they perform very close to a full out racing kite but a lot more forgiving.

p.s. I don't like the bags either. Good thing I don't fly the bags...:D

I have to say that it helps a lot to have a kite that handles well out on the edge of the window. Wish I could take full credit.

I was just mentioning this to Jeff today.

MDK , yes Jimmy has some amazing buggy and kite skills. I am looking forward to flying with him. My 8m regular fabric century and his 6.7 light fabric. My goal stay within shouting distance.

I forgot to mention the kite in the vid is with the heavier fabric.

@fletcht, wish I was there to do the same :)

I like the way the sun would make the kite disappear and you could see it's shadow. Nice technique in filming.:bigok:

So are the wrinkles gone?
