ebay implemented this new policy well.... cranked up enforcement of holding paypal funds until your item arrives at the buyer's home plus even more days depending on if you have a tracking numer blah blah blah and so on . ( theres like 3 different criteria)

Most people have been having to wait 20+ days! (until paypal releases the hold on your funds) even after calling and fighting with the paypal/ebay outsourced customer support.

I think its time to stop using ebay even after 10 years of honest loyal positive usage. :moon:

If you need the $ right away...It's not so good.

But where else can you sell to biggest # of potential buyers?:puzzled: on general items.

If it's kite realated..PKF may be a superior site to reach the most specific class of buyers. No fees of course! No money holding.

Similarly , any item that can be matched to a group site( w/ a sale section) that has specific interest in items that the group uses, collects, trades is always a superior choice for it's sale.

Sometimes it IS released quicker.. depending on circumstances.


I don't live 'hand to mouth'...so a lag in receiving funds is never an issue to me. If it guarantees I am not ripped off as a seller or buyer... that is what is most important.

I frequently sell on eBay, although not with any significant volume. I have heard about what you are describing (having a hold put on funds) from other sellers I have done business with, but I personally have never had a hold put on any payments I have received from buyers. Some sellers will occasionally ask me to "release their funds" as soon as I receive my item. So not sure why or when the PayPal folks decide to issue a hold on payments, but it evidently isn't a universal, all-of-the-time thing. Jim

The longer ebay/paypal can hold "your" money in their accounts the more interest they make off of it.
It's simple economics from their stand point. sucks for us. Haven't used stinkbay for some time now.

Reality check....

Paypal is exhibiting the same behaviour that many companies that have established foothold do. At one time, they might have been new to the market and basically, they needed you, more than you needed them (remember when no one knew what Paypal was? :wow: ). Now that they are fairly monolithic, they can afford to piss off a healthy number of customers as long as there is a steady stream of customers on tap.

Most people that use eBay and Paypal do it because it is by integrated by default, but one does not necessitate the other. If you want to use eBay? Fine. If you, as a seller, don't want to use Paypal....don't. Just say no. Explore your other options and use the one that gives you the least grief. Heck, some have lower fees even.

eBay Accepted Payment Methods:

• PayPal - What everyone's grousing about.
  
• ProPay-Only available to Bronze Level Powersellers and above.
  
• Skrill - Available to low-volume eBay sellers.
  
• Paymate - Available to low-volume eBay sellers.
  
• Credit card or debit card processed through the seller's Internet merchant account - Only useful if you already have an online payment system setup for something line a store or business.
  
• Payment upon pickup - Only good for local transactions.
  Bill Me Later - Lest it need be said, this would only make the situtation worse. ;-)

In a nutshell, if you don't like Paypal and aren't a high-volume or commercial seller, take a look at Skrill or Paymate. Display your displeasure with Paypal with your "virtual feet" walking off to another vendor.

I believe Skrill and Paymate can both be integrated into eBay checkout (assume thats to keep the SEC happy).

Caveat: Don't assume that any company out there is your fairy godmother, most are more interested in their bottom line than if they get a holiday card from you. Still it doesn't hurt to check out whether they are a tad less draconian than Paypal. It's not like it a marriage for life type proposition.

If you put your mind to work and think outside the box, along the line of what indigo said, you can get your $$ much quicker and not have to pay the Paypal charge.
Been doing it for some time now, and your right, 21 days to payday sucks. I like being paid now.

Thanks, I was going to mention it earlier in the thread but couldn't remember what the site was. I havn't used the service but would be willing to try.

But you still have to exchange money. If you use Paypal, send it as a personal, gift, the service is free to both parties.
