Dirtsurfer feedback

Anyone have any experience with the dirt surfer?

It looks interesting, but very little info regarding them and traction kites.

Thanks

I have a dirtsurfer...well, actually had a dirtsurfer. Unfortunately it's being used to investigate a death....I used to let my neighbor use it all the time. As it turns out, one night his friend was towing him behind a truck and he hit another parked truck...not wearing a helmet. Huge dent on the front of the truck. That was not what happened according to the driver of the truck...hence the investigation ....so don't know if I'll get my dirtsurfer back! I could ask for it back but want to avoid a possible liability issue.

...but anyway. I kinda liked it. You do need quite a bit of room and you need to be comfortable knowing how to ride heel and toeside otherwise you're getting off the dirtsurfer and turning it around. The transitions to toeside were a little difficult for me but nothing I couldn't get better at with practice.

Other than that, there fun toys....very fast...so if you like speed, there great.

Never seemed to find the time to ride it as I always liked riding my buggy and landboard better. Having said that though, pick one up if you have the chance...they are definitely fun.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll try to answer them.

How would they handle on wide open rough terrain.. Hard pack dirt and small (4") scrub? Dirt Road?

I've been looking at them pretty hard, and was wondering their rough terrain stability... I live where the dirt roads can be 40 miles long and flat/wide open.. would love to set into a cross terrain ride on one of these.

Image reference to terrain... it is a Mountain Biking Mecca.. and I've never seen a wind powered anything out here.. though there is some sweet days in the spring and winter.

I think that video does a really good job of showing the terrain they are capable of riding. Dirt roads and small scrubs should not be a problem...but make sure your board clearance is higher...!

Don't know if the pics that you provided are an indication of where you'll ride, but if so, just make sure they are no wind shadows or major obstructions...that would most likely be your deal breaker, not the dirtsurfer!

Ya, the video sold me on terrain capabilities. Seems only to be limited by skill and bravery.

Windshadows are plentiful where I'm at, but finding wide open flats are pretty common too... um-teen-million acres of public lands.. it's not all slot canyons and sandstone fins..

A respected friend of mine who longboards like it was a religion said he tried a dirt surfer and fell in love with it.. it got much more stable the faster you went with it.

BTW, did you check out the video of the guys in New Mexico riding the Indian Hills aqeduct...it's pretty cool - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9TLEgMWooM

The aqueduct looked like a pristine riding ground..

Zion is beautiful! I live on the other side of the state, SE corner.. tucked in with Arches Nat'l Park, Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point. Tons of features to put wheels on around here, plenty of space to play. Just bring water.

Crazy people live here though.. so bring your tinfoil hat.

Can anyone point me to a dirtsurfer? Available in the USA, and in stock? Seems to be like finding a unicorn.
Did the company go out of biz at some point?

Sent Dirtslide a U2U... found a few on craigL.. but no one wants to ship them.. local pick up only.

Did the company just bomb out? All I see on the Net are people begging for one, and everyone is Out Of Stock.. Last real article was written in 2008.

Seems like a great opportunity for a USA side business minded individual.
