Heel Straps

My kiteboard falls off my feet alot!

Has anyone used heel straps? can you retrofit them to a standard binding or does the binding need to be designed to take them?

Any improvised solutions?

Does this happen to other people? It doesn't happen with my ATB and I wear the bindings loose on that so I can bail if i want to.

toe bars will help, try to get the binding higher on the foot,

gotta start out fairly tight. the compression relaxes in about 20min.

if the FOOTBED really soft or hard?...remember thats part of the retention device

on the atb if you have low forefoot bindings (tilted toward the toes) retention is lighter.

The footbed on the kiteboard is quite hard but it seems quite grippy. The strap is mostly over my lower forefoot and its quite rigid. My toes stick out far enough that I can curl by big toe back to help stay attached but it still seems to fall off my feet quite eaislly.

On the landboard the bindings are more flexible and I can twist my heels toward the axles to lock my feet in. That and wearing Five Ten Freerider shoes which seem to stick amazingly to boards, pedals etc and I feel pretty solid on the atb.

The kiteboard always feels like its just on my feet and no more though!

have you tried adjusting them? if the binding themselves dont have any adjusters, most boards have various anchor points

I just got these in today for my MTH custom board. It is a hybrid lace up binding / footstrap. It's made by litewave. It has a larger strap that wraps over your entire foot so holds better like bindings but allow you to easily pull your foot out. The pad is contour so that your heel sits down into it and does not slide back easily. There is also a nice lip on the front for your toes to curl over.

Interested in that style of binding, but bet that the loops will rot and break...

To the OP - your feet will slip/fall out in the beginning till you get used to it.

They are regular shoe laces so would cost about $2 to replace if they do rot.

my cab custom has similar SYNC bindings. too soft all over. lace thing without bungee may help mine. i like a rigid pad and flexy board, and the toe bar step is a huge bonus. could never get the lace thing set right it just had too much springy feel.

the self forming velcro straps are my fav, they have rigid backing in them to hold shape easily and very stiff. place your foot to the toe bar and one toe squeeze and your set, ready to throw it like a pro.
