I like to ride... Because ...?

I like to ride on land. I try to ride all styles but while my old bones can take it I want to enjoy board and blades.

Because I get my biggest thrill out of them.

It is the " ON LAND " part I seem to be having to defend a lot lately. I do what I please but have a hard time explaining even to myself why I am not more interested in ( our cold polluted ) water scene ? It is far more advanced than us on land.

Why do you choose to ride on land or water ???
Why do you ride your ride ??

Mood: Serious Buggy withdraws!

[*] posted on 22-8-2012 at 07:02 AM

I stayed in just the buggy for the last five years, mostly because it was relaxing when I wanted it to be and fast when I wanted it to be. I had the ability to ride how I wanted to ride depeding on the wind situation.

Just recently I gave the landboard a go at it and I must say that I am totally enjoying the rush I get from that. I picked it up rather quickly and look forward to advancing further.

I also got on the water a few weeks ago for the first time and will give it another go when the wind and timing presents itself. More challenging, but so
far I am up for the challenge.

All in all I know that the buggy is my deal, I will try and make the rest fit in somewhere.

I love the feeling of getting the power from the sky and controlling it to my satisfaction. The buggy is my weapon of choice because I love applying the power to something that can take what I feed it and turn it in to speed.

Aside from not being particularly interested in riding water,... It's about 4 hours to the closest beach

Initially I thought I would only want to static fly and jump, but when I realized how much jumping freaked me out, I chose to get into the buggy seat. It's challenging and relaxing at the same time. And it's a thrill that most folks don't know anything about.

And as others have said, I enjoy being moved by that which cannot be seen :)

Mood: low winds here I come

[*] posted on 22-8-2012 at 06:37 PM

I like to ride land because it relaxes me like nothing else (even though I'm often swearing in the middle of a field when I'm fighting low winds). I enjoy the challenge I get from trying to get going on water every time I go to the lake. Also knowing that one day I will get it nailed down and that will be a huge accomplishment.

Snow is my all time favorite because in the winter I have all the land I could ever want to kite on just 5 minutes any direction from my house. I'm also not so scared to throw the kite around in 2 feet of snow.

I love controlling all that power, riding at the limits of the traction at breakneck speed.

Why land? Why a buggy? We go faster than anyone on water.

I ride for myself and for my own gratification. I ride for the serenity, for isolation from the "real" world we've enslaved ourselves to, for the feeling of regaining a place in the natural world. I never feel like I've mastered the wind, more like the wind and I have come to a delicate understanding. Ocassionally the wind decides to test our agreement. Some sessions can have consequences, as much do to lack of wind as to too much wind, and I'm ultimately responsible for my own well being. I enjoy that feeling of self reliance. But there are also some sessions, steady warm winds and t-shirts sessions, so mellow and sublime that I almost feel guilty that the rest of the world can't share the expirience.

When I'm on the kite I'm in the moment, nothing else matters.

Although I agree with Carl in regards to lables, I fully accept the lable of "Snowkiter". :ninja:

I am with Carl in thinking. I made a decision early on to try and learn everything kite related. I KITE and if you kite , you are my friend ! :bigok:

I seem to have fallen short on water though. Once I found land I hardly looked back. It is the one skill I am still not able to do at an acceptable level. The water around here truly is ice cold and polluted but there is LOTS of it and a huge scene. I guess I am just trying to come to terms with why I am avoiding that step? Another summer is almost over and I never even gave it the annual try !

I do fly exactly what I choose each day. I just wonder why I never seem to choose a water session?

Shag's I agree Snowkiting is what it is all about. As a Canadian I didn't think I had to go there ! ;-)

P.S. we all fly kites. I was kind of looking into insite as to why you choose your ride / rides.

I like to ride the water as it involves cruising across a media that I would otherwise not be able to... I always wanted to try a ATB board however I think if the wind is blowing and the water is not frozen, that's where I will be... Even though our water is frigid cold except for some tidal pools that I frequent.

Regarding the snow kite, I have all the tools (board, kites, snow, ice) and I have gone a few times but generally when it is windy here in the winter its either -30*C or you cannot see 6 feet in front of you due to blizzard conditions.

Check out the local I have for buggy and ATB below :wow:

I like the type of challenge where respect is earned and not given. I love being outdoors, period. Kiting contributes to my belief that a healthy body makes a healthy mind. And finally, there's the satisfaction of being able to occasionally borrow from a natural force that is just way bigger than me.

I ride because I now know ....till last fall it was a big secret to me.. I go atb because it is so quick to smiles its not funny. Lowtide hardpack and atb are a natural together...... I will get wet soon we will see if that changes my mind, but I dont think so. I do take a lot of grief from nonkiters about not being in the water.........but they wont step on my atb, same as most waterkiters around here.

little late to the thread...
snow, some water now, and a bit of land boarding when getting in the water isn't possible

blend of skill and thrill is a great description.
and dido to all the comments of getting out of the busy day to day life and just enjoying kiting.
I enjoy the feeling of flying the kite, the cruising feeling when everything is locked on, and everything else that you can work on in between (transitions, jumps, etc).

Blade, nothing wrong with enjoying the land aspect and letting the water aspect be.
Getting into the water was quite an adjustment for me for whatever reason. The water is pretty fun...I enjoy the surfy feel of the board and the available power to jump is great. :) If you have any inkling of getting into the water again...do it. My first hammerings on the water left me wondering whether the water was really something I wanted to get into, but the experience I get snowkiting is starting to work itself into the water aspect.
