Footwear question

Hey guys, hope you're all well and had lots of flying time :)

A quick question this time:
What kind of shoes do you wear for kiting? (and land boarding)
Specifically the amount of ankle support. Do you have high walking boot type shoes, less supportive lighter trainers, or something in the middle ??
Is it just personal preference, or is there a recommended type for safety reasons ??

Thanks,
Tim

I use my skate shoes. I kite on a skateboard. Skate shoes are probably the best to wear because they have flat soles and were designed to ride boards with. If you want more ankle support you can get high tops. DC, Osiris, Globe, Etnies, Circa, Fallen are good brands to get.

I love scuddin' in skate shoes. When riding ATB, My feet are in bindings,so I need the flexibility to carve toeside and heelside. I would think it difficult to "get your feet out in front of ya'"w/ hi tops on. Just my 2 cents....

I use Converse hi top canvas runners for landboarding. Flat soles, good range of movement. Have to tuck in the lace loops so they don't get caught on the bindings on my board.

Used to use an old pair of skate shoes, now sport a pair of nike cross trainers. IMO the skate shoes were better for scudding. The trainers have more grip and I have found myself running towards the kite powered up in the window rather than sliding on my heels. First time I didn't run and almost face planted.

I to think it would be a bit difficult with high tops. Why you ask??? Ever try scudding in snowboard boots??? Not the most fun.

Vans classic skateboarding shoes:thumbup: It makes it easy to slip your feet in and out of bindings when you are doing board off tricks

however; I do use a pair of low top light weight hiking shoes that have a super grippy sole for those days in the fall when the wind is big and the grass is slick

Exactly what I wear - although my soles are not overly aggressive. I like all the support I can get around my ankles - particularly if I'm flying on grass. On the beach where scudding is much easier on the feet, I feel I can get away with a lighter boot.

I get really good scuds in a pair of $5 walmart flip flops... but I don't wear those in the bug,... I typically like to wear Keens in the bug.

I don't ever have issues with my ankles, I have bad knees and typically am more concerned with them, so I wear braces on both, esp. with the 5m.

I fly at the beach so treads are a no-no. In fact i have ripped the tread part off the bottom of my sneaks so they are baby smooth!

For the buggy i use a pair of Teva enclosed kayaking shoes for quick drying

Because most of the ride are on grass, i wear Keen™ (looks like austin model) shoes but looking for high walking boot type shoes specially for ankle protection . In winter time kind of "ski-doo" boots.
