Low pass by UFO caught by Google satellites

:shocked2:

Expect it will be gone in the next map refresh, but it was still kind of cool coming across it. ;-)

Likely glare from some reflective roof/solar panel.
(tho it's said that Google will photoshop out any anomalies they find in the aerial pix)

More than likely.... I just thought it was serendipitously cool because at most zoom levels, you can't see it. And I was just cruising through the area using the mouse to zoom and pan when I came across it.

@ Kam: Google is the second major partner with GeoEye and has an exclusive contract as far as using imagery for online mapping.

GeoEye-1 which weighs in at 4,300-pounds, cruising 423 miles above the Earth at 17,000 miles per hour. The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency picked up half of the $502 million dollar tab on the satellite and commited to purchasing imagery the satellite.

GeoEye-2 was scheduled to launch in early 2013.

Sam

Yes that is what we call Bright Target Return [BTR] and in this case it has also saturated the sensor such that there is bleed -over effect on the neighboring sensors/ pixels.

Digital Globe also provide quite a bit of imagery to Google and at the higher zoom levels, particularly in urban areas, there is still quite a bit of aerial imagery.

-your friendly local GeoEye employee :)
