Soccer field experience/ tree question

Well went north today to check out a soccer field/complex i had heard about. When i arrived there was a gentleman there with his son shooting goals, so i went up and asked what the schedule was and if there were any games today because i wanted to fly a kite. His response was - go for it no games til 2:00, turns out that he was the care taker for this complex and he was super excited to see my fly then when i stopped we talked for about 30 minutes as he explained what his plans were for the fields and how i was welcome to come any time as long as they were not in use:yes:. Now the bad news predominant wind came over a stand of trees and created the worst rotor i have ever flown in i could literally launch in one direction and then as the kite hit zenith fly 180 degrees from direction i launched - first time i ever got dizzy from turning around so much.
NOW for the tree question- any experience with trees after they have lost their leaves in regards to moothing out the wind some?
thanks
scott

If its a single tree line smooth wind will get thru faily clean , if it's a forest/wood lot/grove ,it will slow it down considerably. Either way you won't have the big rotors and swirly wind you get when the leaves are on. If its rolly polly swirly to begin with it will pretty much continue to be so on the lee side of the trees.
