Flysurfer Pulse2 8 meter-TRADE
Looking to trade a lightly flown (not flown at all in 2011) Pulse2 8 meter in very good shape for a:
Outlaw 6
or
Yeti 6
or
Pulse2 6
possibly:
Frenzy 7
This kite has never been on water. Only flown on snow and in the buggy and atb.
My 12 meter Pulse has a huge windrange and I really need a size smaller than the 8 for the nukin winter winds. I kind of miss the easy set up/
landings of open cell foils, especially the smaller sizes (flew Frenzy's for many years) so that's why the Outlaw is first on my list.
Hoping someone out there has one and is looking for this type of trade.

We have very tight launch areas when we're "in" the water up here. I prefer my small inflato when the wind's honking.
The winter is a different scenario...lot's of room to launch and land.
Will probably always use a small inflato when the wind is 30+ when on the water. That's why my primary focus is on an open cell for a small kite.

I had a chance to fly B-Roc's Pulse2 6 back when he was selling it a couple of years ago. I had an Access2 6 meter that we were considering swapping.
The wind was on the light side the day we met so I didn't get a true feel for the kite. I did feel that it had much less grunt in the wind we were
flying in. I imagine it would be stellar however in higher winds and the depower range on the Pulses is quite dramatic. Anyways, the Access wasn't
quite the kite he was looking for and we both walked away with the kites we showed up with and no swap was made.
The search is on.

Just a comment about the 6m Access and Pulse and Yeti. The Access definately had more grunt but the pulse, IMO has more speed and lift in the same
winds. A 6m yeti in the same winds will have more power and speed and upwind ability and lift than the Access but less than the Pulse II. It will be
less punchy and racey then the Pulse for sure and about equally fast in the same winds when it comes to turning but perhaps slightly slower than the
pulse. Ground handling and safety system is better on the Yeti for sure.
I found the 6m Pulse II to shine in its low end range but have too much overlap to my 10m Eskimo in the upper limit and the 6m Access to leave too
large a hole when stepping down. The Yeti fits the gap more closely but if you are stepping down from a 12m Pulse to a 6m Yeti, I think you too will
have a hole unless you can really hold on to that Pulse in high winds. You are a stronger and larger rider than I so you may be able to do that but I
just wanted to comment since I have flown or owned all of the kites in question. The Pulse will come alive before the Yeti or Access but the Yeti has
a better upper range than the Pulse and the Access a better upper range than both.
I've also flown the Outlaw and would have liked to have traded my Pulse for that just so I didn't have to deal with semi closed cells but I just
couldn't get use to FS and though I liked the Outlaw more than the Pulse, I liked them both less than my Gins. I can't comment on a power comparison
between a 6m Outlaw and Yeti as I flew the 10m Outlaw and found it probably about equal in power to my 10m Eskimo though I thought the Eskimo turned
better and with more even power delivery and speed through the turn.
I think you may be better off with a 7m foil if stepping down from a 12m Pulse but you still may need something to sit below that on real high wind
days.
You are welcome to try my Yeti if you come back to Nahant but I wouldn't be interested in trading it for a larger kite as the 8m would sit way too
close to my 10.

Brian, thanks for the thoughtful insight and taking the time to craft that response!
I think alot of times some of us may have a certain impression about a certain kite (probably alot to do with marketing and sexiness of the kite) and
it's great to have real first hand feedback from an independent source.
While I can take the Pulse2 12 well into the 20's your point about a possible hole with stepping down to a 6 is valid. I've thought the same, but I
also am not uncomfortable having to work a kite to milk its potential in the lower end of its range as opposed to fighting a kite that's getting way
overpowered.
Another problem we sometimes face is being able to demo kites. I was lucky to be able to fly your 6 Pulse2. I haven't seen another one in my travels.
Same applies to a Yeti 6. I've never seen one. So as a purchaser we often have to take a leap of faith. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
That's one of the many exceptional things about this forum-great non-biased reviews.
Next trip down to Mass I'll see if we can hook up to fly the Yeti. Thanks for the offer.
In the meantime I'm hoping a mystery Outlaw or Pulse or Frenzy does show up....and also that we get some stinking snow this winter!!!!!
