Before I got into this I remember visiting Coupville Washington and visiting the old Fort. I have always thought it would be a perfect location both wind and AOXOMO wise ?

I know they have a kite festival there each year. It's sort of an easy spot for both Seattle area and Van to meet up.

I'm itching to fly someplace that's not here ! Someplace new ( to me ) Luv the Oregon crew and all but think we may be missing a gem of a location ?

If I was to head there on Nov. 10 long weekend would anybody want to meet up?

Are there any restrictions to us there ?

been there a number of times, pucker brush and such things are a bit hard on tires. then again the snow kiting is one of the best from what I have been told. been there in the summer but not the winter. to far to drive with chains on the truck. makes it hard to stay at 60 with the chains ripping the fender off.

I was there for the kite festival in Sept.I think it is privately owned or leased by the University of Seattle or another University.So you would probably need permission to use it.
It's not much bigger in area than GP. I think a better spot would be Chambers Park in Tacoma.But then it's only a couple of hours from Seaside.
I would rather be on the beach and there's a great crew to fly with at Sunset.

It's tough to trump the great folks at Seaside.

I was running on memory and the park is bigger than GP in my mind but I am sure you are right. I thought I had heard something about it being Public land that was sold .

I just found that place to be very interesting back then and had always hoped to go back. No better reason than to kite !

I did not try, walked around and decided that it was more trouble than it was worth. People and people and besides it was lunch time and the burgers sounded a bit better than anything else.

Fort Casey, or Fort Ebby (?) They are both on the Wa. State Park register but that doesn't mean that they haven't been turned over to the public to maanage. A lot of that has been happening as of late. The issues with the Beaches and parks doesn't seem to apply here since the WAC is directed towards beach use. You could always try and see what happens. Sometimes better to plead ignorance. Or Maybe I will next year sometime.

I think it's Fort Casey just past the Port Townsend ferry terminal.This is where they hold the kite festival.
Has anyone ever tried to buggy on the tidal flats near Bellingham.I think they get good wind in the summer,just not sure how firm the surface would be.

When you said coupville, I thought of the coupville up by Okanogan. Nobody here calls it coupville, it's call Whidey Island or Fort Casey. Boy those out of towners, never know what they are talking about. It's like they are talking Canadian or some other strange language.:frog:

I did use the parade field one time and thought the world had come to an end. Got in a bit of trouble, so DON'T USE THE BIG OPEN FIELD THAT WOULD BE PERFECT TO BUGGY IN.
Fort Casey is full of 1 line kites most all the time. Tried to use the beach on 2 different occasions and it was a bust. The amount of drift wood on the beach is unbelievable, and the beach is rather steep. Like trying to buggy on a side walk with no place to turn around. On the other hand, if you want to mow the grass with your board, might be worth a drive.
After the 2nd trip I decided to look somewhere else. Talk about kite heaven with 1 liners and stormy beach walkers. If the wind is blowin, and it is not raining, you can bet your last dollar the place is crowded.
Now parking at that time is almost impossible.
