I can't remember if I already posted up these pictures of the Dom4. If I have already then surely it must be time for a repost.

Not only do you get the pictures but I'll throw in a video of my T3 on Kenda BR's from earlier in the year. That's two for the price of one!

What is the effect of cambering the beach racers? What made you decide to try the camber?

Hey Bob,

Well I originally had a straight axle on the T3 and later fancied the idea of trying discs. So I contacted Trikbitz who makes the Tornado T3 that you see in the video and ordered a cambered axle from him.
After a short while I decided that my local beach didn't really suit discs but instead of swapping the axle back over for the straight one, which is a pain, I decided to keep the camber and use it with the Beach Racers instead and loved it.

The camber made a big difference to their grip while still allowing them to un-stick for powerslides without the skipping that you can sometimes generate with BF's, BFL's and discs.

Gone is their flat profile that made them fall out of favour with competition buggy pilots. Anyone who's ever passed up the BR's should seriously give them another try cambered. They're a completely different animal.

Anyway, when I later bought the Dominator from Popeye I noticed that it wasn't really performing anywhere near as strongly as the T3 with it's cambered BR's. After a while I found myself increasingly using the T3 most weekends and only occasionally the Dom would come out to play, which was a great shame because the Dom4 had always been my dream poster buggy.

So eventually I asked Popeye to make up some special cambered stub axles for the Dom and a pair of solid Nike tick forks. I now honestly feel the Dom closely matches the T3's performance and in other areas surpasses them. Which is quite a feat for the larger heavier Dom4. Holding a line, going upwind and sliding to a stop from high speed on soft patches of sand are all improved with these simple tweaks.

I'm very pleased with it now. You'll find it now stays attached to my trailer ready for action. I no longer use the T3 as often since the modifications. Admittedly the T3 is slightly more nimble and lighter on it's feet than the Dom and has a one size 'fits all' seat which I prefer as I like to be loose in the seat, but the Dom was never made for me.

Together with the Stub axles and new forks the bug now feels leaner and meaner than ever before, it's more planted and secure and less liable to tip which is exactly what I'm looking for when it comes to high speed runs down our narrow soft beach in my ultimate quest for speeeeed. :wee:

not a problem Tom, I knew who you meant :) I was going to post earlier to Bobby's question that I bet with the wide wheels on the back, camber will lift the outside off thus giving you less surface and more bite then when under side load in a turn puts it down which allows a nice drift. but you beat me to it ;)
probably needs 8x wheels to work though, right? 4x not so much. are those 8's you have on? I use to do race cars and played with chassis set ups quite a bit.

Haha, thanks! and yeah I'm running 8's (standard non asysms) I think I've heard of BF's on 4's before.

If you wanted to go down the cambered Beach Racer route then I'd be tempted to try these Midi BF's on a cambered axle instead. I reckon they'd be better suited to a smaller bug.

These tyres look like they have a similar flat profile to the Kenda BR's but half the size.
