Going to Hawaii, best SMALL travel Foil?
Wife and I are heading to Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii for christmas, and am thinking of picking up a small twin line foil that both of us can
play with on the beach.
It'll be a suprise present for her, something to sneak into the luggage and give to her over there :singing:
If you could take a small draw string tote-bag sized foil, into un-known winds (but most likely on the ripping upper speed) what size, and "do all"
kite would you take as an aggressive wife kite?.
I'm thinking $50-$100 and around a 1.5-2m size. Higher speed winds in mind.
So what is a favorite fanny-pack size portable kite (really small / travel lightweight / wife-friendly) sticking to a twin line just for quick
impulsive fun at a beach of unknown (upper?)wind speeds?
I'm thinking along the lines of a Peter Lynn 1.6-1.9 vibe II, maybe a HQ Symphony Beach II 1.7-2.1, or even smaller like a Snapshot 1.2 or similar.
Wife and I are both Scuba Divers, so that gear alone takes up a ton of equipment/luggage/weight/space.
I'm wanting a wife friendly small drawstring size pouch or fanny pack kite.
think fun, not work.
What does the PKF Brain-trust suggest?
:puzzled:

I've done this before and I usually take a tiny 2 string kite like my Little Devil stunt, 1.5 meters. Even though it's a 4 line kite, it flies fine
on two lines. I've got two lightweight webbing handles that are meant for stunt kite flying like these:
http://www.powerkiteshop.com/accessories/flexifoillightweigh...
I take my smallest plastic winder and wrap the lines and handles around it, then wrap the kite around that. Secure it with a few rubber bands and
there you go. No bigger than a paperback book and weighs less. Just perfect for a relaxing fly at sunset.

go with a Ozone Imp Quattro 4 line 1m kite . I just got back from 2 weeks in Kona ,best places to fly are at the old airport right in Kona or if you
want to travel you have to fly at south point where the trees grow sideways because the wind is so strong and always howling 4 line will give you more control and better relaunch. I have one of
these kite and love it, just my opinion.

Sounds like the imp is the way to go.
My first kite was a symphony beach 2.1 and its fun, but after flying 4 line kites, it's just a little lack luster.
Those PL Vibes look cool, but they're on a bar and probably won't pack up that small.
I'm going to take a nap now

I believe that the 4 line IMP has been replaced by the Quattro. The Quattro comes in a smallest size of 1.6m, so if you want something really small
the 4 line IMP in 1m is a better bet if you can find one, plus the older graphics look much nicer (did I already say that?)

.................and so the slippery buying Power Kites slope starts skudding me away..................
A BIG thanks to Jeff "BigKid" for helping me along with not one but TWO new foil kites to add to my flying Quiver. :singing:
Jeff I really appreciate you spending quite a while last night talking power kites with me (normally I don't go frequent or hang out with guys in hot
fogged up long idling sweaty diesel pickup trucks in a remote corner of a dark wet rainy Seattle deserted parking lot for over an hour, but hey it
wasn't like he was tapping his foot in a mens bathroom stall or anything???.........grins.)
Jeffs kite passion and knowledge shines bright (even in a dark parking lot in his truck ) so to finally flee for my safety and freedom I had to escape
with not one but 2 new kites, and I'm sure my wife will enjoy the New Tech Thunderfoil II 1.7m twin-line, and just to be sure I enjoy our Hawaii
vacation, a PKD 3.3m Buster SoulFly Quad Line followed me home.
I mean you gotta cover all your flying bases and wind speeds right? :bouncing:
thanks again Jeff, I look forward to new flying times together.

OK, lets get a few things cleared up right away.
It wasn't steamed up till you jumped in.
I wasn't alone, Levi was with me.(that sounds bad too)
You requested the meeting, I only picked the spot.(that sound bad also)
I do not toe tap, or foot tap.
And why would you tell us (normally......)? :puzzled:
Now that I have cleared that up, and I am glad to help you out with you addiction, I would like to meet the wife to be sure you have one.
Enjoy the kites, both of you. Next time we meet, it will be in the open with lots of people around and you will bring the other half,
right?

I got a Vibe for the wife - packs up tiny. Bar is an option - take it off and make 'handles' out of a couple loops of rope if you need to.
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...
