Mood: They're ALL good ideas. Right up until they become BAD ideas.

Get in touch with Transcanada Tom (tctom (at) me.com) - he'll likely have the most up to date info. Or hit up the Bow Valley Snowkite group on Facebook.

Tom posted on another forum that Spray needs a couple more weeks but he has been out on Vermillion Lakes already. They are just west of Banff townsite. Lac des Arcs on the way into Canmore could also be ready but nobody has confirmed that for me yet. Still enough snow in cowtown to not drive too far to kite but the wind has been light.

windguru is forecasting good winds for Saturday (10mph gusting to 30 by 5 PM) but light on Sunday (2-7 mph) at Vermillion Lakes.

Another bogus forecast ..Where's the wind? :dunno: Cold with new snow overnight but no Chinook winds yet.... They will likely show up as the sun goes down. Hope the clouds go away and the moon shines bright.

I was up XC skiing near Spray this weekend and there is almost NO ICE! Most of the lakes are open water, surprising as Chestermere appears to be frozen pretty thick by now. It was 0C up there and the skiing was terrible, waxed for -10 as it should have been colder than Calgary!

I agree where are these Chinook winds... it has been windless for a month...

Historically, the season at Spray starts late compared to the other lakes. It is a very deep lake (and so a large mass of water to cool) exposed to Chinook winds. But the depth works to its advantage in May, occasionally in June. Winds ? - have been good (if anything - too much) in all the windy locations.
