Another seat thought??

While I was up to the wee hours of the morning last night, I was surfing the internet for all sorts of things to make my buggy better so....

Has anyone ever considered using a fiberglass racing go-cart seat for a buggy? Just asking. I know Van and others make beautiful seats.

I've seen school chairs used at WBB although functional and probably has nice back support....not the best looking.

  • Fiberglass would be prone to dings and subsequent delamination on the underside.

  • If it chips/shatters during an OBE, you could end up with sharp bits in close proximity to tender regions.

  • Unless there is proper drainage, you could end up sitting in a puddle.

  • It doesn't breath, so it would be a bit of a hot box during warmer weather.

  • Similarily, it will store a fair amount of heat sitting in the sun.

Sam

I was thinking about the bouncing. Without proper padding the thing would be like smacking your backside on the concrete.

I used a plastic boat seat for mine - drilled a couple holes in the bottom for drainage (although I tend to stay clear of the wet stuff anyway) and put a thin bit of dense foam on it to improve grip and comfort. Spent 4 hours in it the other day and was really quite comfy - it was a pretty smooth beach though.
