Mood: More kiting !!!

I am speechless .......

........ and I was thinking Pascal is crazy doing those long glides with Gin kites ...... so .... look at this video ...... that is just insane ... 10min glide way up there

.... as we talk many time that kiting can be as extreme as we want too..... this guy take it to .. " I will do it or die trying "

... not sure what to think about it ..... logic makes me think that it would be easier to buy paraglider and do this any time I want in much safer way .... where one snapped line will not sent me down like a rock .....

Enjoy .....

Yeah I'm inclined to agree - it smacks of doing moto-x with a GSXR.

... still cool though :cool2:

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

That is totally crazy and amazing at the same time. Wonder if it was his intention to land in that field all along or if he just picked it based on where he wound up? He seemed so pumped when he landed. Heck of a ride and quite a view of the world from up there. Really amazing. Great song choices to boot.

Here he is 9 months earlier taking a shorter but pretty high flight while starting static on a beach. Guy has skills

Good discussion on KF about it. I myself just don't get it...why not just buy a paraglider that is actually built for that type of load. Hope nothing ever happens to that guy, but he is taking some serious risks!

Glad he made it. Picked a good kite but I would buy a paraglider or speed wing instead. Lots of risk here. At least he had the reserve but I think you need at least 500ft to deploy it. He probably knew that but would most? Don't anyone go buying that surplus parachute and trying it or anything.

Hey B-Roc,

Below is the link from Kiteforum - http://www.kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2379539

Stetson - Not sure about this...guess it depends on conditions, chute size, wind, etc, but I thought the general rule of thumb was to deploy no less than 300ft AGL.

I think given the alternative is flapping, I would still try to deploy even if I was 200ft. ;)

Is it possible to design for strength, if the designer doesn't really understand what strength is?

At 200 ft it might slow you down just enough to live on life support for a while.

I wonder if a speed wing would allow you to do this?

Does the Flysurfer Speed have a better lift to glide ratio?

I am not a skydiver but I know the pilot chute size and type of rig is critical to how much distance is needed to deploy. I have seen some pretty low base jumps. Youtube a rig called Skyhook. If he had one of those hooked up somehow he might could have gotten deployed even lower.

A local guy has a speed wing. It is a 16m Ozone. In the right conditions I have seen him take off from the top of the hill, gain altitude and land on the top again. I think a speed wing could totally do it, with more comfort, and facing forward not backward.

About the reserve, I don't know the right answer, but I'm with Scudley. If I was at 200ft I would still try it.

reserve is defiantly a plus ..... and what is done on above video is definitely huge achievement for fellow kiter and I am sure there is whole bunch of kiters that have done that before ( or not ) ....
.... Its good to see people with confidence like this .... Who knows .... maybe I be doing this in year or two ...lol... I hope he will never need to use that parachute ...

Crazy dude! The pilot chute is not as important as the base rig and how you fold the base jump chute. The crazy guys have done jumps as low as 200', but that is totally crazy.
