large guy low wind kite

Hey guys/gals

Im looking for a low wind kite to keep me moving on a land board when its not in the windy season where I live. Im about 230 and losing wieght, although not as fast as I would like. I ride soft sand to hard pack dirt. Looking for any suggestions on sales for a large kite to get me around. Used or new im not picky. Thanks everyone.

P.s. dont care if its 10 plus meters. Like I said. It can be light winds here. As low as 7 mph.

Tell us a little more:
What do you fly now?(Fixed Bridle, depower foil or lei)
Fom your post it sounds like you ride at the beach. Can we assume he winds are steady and consistent at 7mph? Its one thing to ride when its steady at 7mph, its another to ride when its 7mph with 3mph lulls.

I would suggest a Phantom 15m but the light winds put a damper on that. Consider a larger Montana or PL Lynx or Access if you want DePower. PL Twister 7.7 for fixed bridle. Above 7, drop to a 5.6 Twister

Bit more info on what you fly at the moment would help, for land boarding I'm not so sure about the NASA recommendation as they produce a lot of lateral pull, ideal for a buggy but depending on how good you are, might not be so good for a board? Sounds like you have a depower in mind if you're thinking > 10m. My 8.5m blade gets going over 7mph wind. The Frenzy is also a good one for a depower.

I think there is a good deal on a 10.8 Reactor II on here now ? http://www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=23802 There have been some very positive reviews on this kite if you search.

This kite likes room to run. Given space it creates it's own wind and is a sweet ride. Looks good too ! It is ultimately a fantastic buggy engine but will serve up nicely as a low wind ATB kite !

One of the only reasons I sold mine was that it would become too much too fast on snow.

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.
Flysurfer : 19m Speed 2 SA, 7m Pulse
Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

Right now I have a 4 meter depower foil but have flown fixed bridle as well. Winds are a constant 5mph on a
Bad day and usually sit at 7mph with little to no gust normally. Then theres always those better days but the wind seems to sit at the low levels this time of year and I still want to get out and have some fun. All the info is great, keep it coming please!!!

No gusts!! Sounds like heaven :-) 5-7mph I would be flying my 11.8m Nasa, the 8.5m Blade although would be good for static, needs a bit more for good traction in the buggy.
Ooops forgot to add I'm @200lbs

Joedy is right, that is a light wind kite if your budget can swing it. 10m(ish) depow isn't some much a light wind kite as it is a heavy weight's moderate wind kite. 10m+ fixed bridle would be a good start if you have steady winds.

At 210# on snow I'm on a 24m Phantom. At www.hardwaterkiter.com we have a 15m HQ Matrixx demo for light winds that a lot of people have been using in sub 10mph and been really happy. Goes head to head with the Flysurfer P4 19m SA and does almost as well at half the money. That Matrixx goes upwind like a dream in light winds

If you can find someone willing to let go of a 12m Slingshot Ranger, it's a heck of a nice light wind kite.

It was the gusts that made the 10.8 more than I wanted on snow. I'm only 150lbs.. If you have sooth winds I am still thinking 10.8 Reactor . Mostly because they are selling at such a good second hand price. Seeds are nice but spendy ?

I fly mostly in low winds, and to that end, I bought a few different kites. For fixed bridle, I bought a 8.5 Blade IV. Its pretty good in anything above 5mph, but turns slow in low wind. Once I got into depower, I bought a 13m Waroo and an 18m Guerilla. They both fly in 5 mph, and they pull about the same. The guerilla is a little better in really light stuff. I was snowkiting in 4-5 mph steady winds on a frozen lake with no problem. I certainly wasn't catching any air, but I stayed upwind and had a blast.

I weigh about 180, so if you add a couple of mph, I think this size would be good for you. The Waroo was my first depower, and its pretty forgiving, even at that size. I'm selling one or both of these soon so I can offset the cost of a new buggy. For 200-300ish, I'll sell you one of these and you can decide on your long term needs without being too risky or breaking the bank. Either way, I'd highly suggest getting into a used kite until you're sure of the direction you want to go. For arcs, 18m+, for LEI, 13m+, and for foils, I dunno. I think hardwater knows his foils, so I think 13-15 would be plenty.

Also, I have a 15m phantom and it will NOT power you with those winds. The 24 would, but the 15 won't even power me in those winds (unless I'm super aggressively looping it...maybe...downhill...on ice.) Anyway, lemme know if you want one of my cheap kites. I'll give you a good deal.
