Spectacular! Wow!

The terrain is both magnificent and deadly. The skis are mostly for take off and landing on this route down..... but as the occasional ski touchdown skim of snow- and quickly back up shows...... they could have perhaps stayed grounded on skis for possible longer periods than a few to ten seconds. perhap much longer on a less dangerous route without crevasses everywhere!

This is also a flyover expose of a glacier and it's nearly impossible maze for negotiation that a mountain climber may encounter or likely avoid by alternative route.

Hats off to the film crew in capturing the terrain and flyers. The last moments of the film capturing the red kite flyer landing was suspenseful and captured brilliantly. Great position and angle. How many were wondering where and how they would land with little or no snow cover as they were getting closer to ground. Kind of a nail biter voyeurism at the end.

The paragliding kites don't look that big. fairly short line too. I think i have a kite that size!! Why can't I do that?!!:wink2:

The group may have seem a little bunched up for such a fly- as you would want to have a safe berth away from other flyers in such an endeavor.

Notice at 2:58 in film-in fact- that one yellow kite flyer has to put on the ski brakes and turn away from red kited flyer as he comes within about 10-15 ft of running into the red kited flyer while on the ground!!:o Look out!:wow:

A mistake and crash would have sent them off the edge of the glacier and only if their canopies stayed open would they have maybe recovered and flown away. But if they tangled up...it woud have been two adventurers plunging to their death.

Great post Todd..thanks!

Some of same flyers

on the Eiger.

POV filming from flyer himself. This one has been around -if you have not seen before.

The film Todd has posted here outshines this one by a mile, though.

If I did the math right, they were falling about 1000 feet per minute. That's pretty steep terrain.

The kites seem fairly small...I wonder how many Sq meters?

..... Much smaller than Paraglider kites you can launch from the flat ground.

It's primarily 'apparent' wind keeping them aloft...... which the flyers are getting from gravity.

Love the side by side flying at 7:50.

How does the flyer seem to reverse direction at 8:22 without kite collapsing?!

(Kite?.....what DO we call this canopy anyway!)

This is just one of the best adventure shorts I've ever seen and dreamed about.

I keep watching it...twice a day right now!

You're allowed to do this inbounds at the resort at Mt Blonc. I hooked up with another telemarker and speedflyer there. We would bomb down the whole trail trying to catch up to the man in the sky. He would just point it on the first steep mogul patch lift off and soar over the trees. He would touch down at a couple of points--if he felt like it-- and usually had his chute/parasail packed by the time we got to the tram car line.

amazing vid
