Instead of a simple disposable number plate made out of cardboard sealed in clear tape.....I'll be making a more lasting suitable # plate. I thought I
might ask what others have made there plates from?
.. I have some scrap 3/16 white poster board I can cut a 7 x 10 piece out of...but its foam sandwich and can snap/break if knocked about. Maybe
something better if I can find a solid plastic sheet somewhere? Have to catch my eye on some repurposable trash item or look thru home Depot...?
Anybody bling out theres? Pics?
I know rich Has armbands available if folks don't want to make their own.

Well here it is boys and girls...I really wanted it to be a surprise but since people were asking.....I don't have time now, but if you want some
plates for the fall bash we can talk while I am down there. These are hand painted with car enamels and believe me they took some time. If I figured
it out by the hour I probably made at least 00.12 an hour...haha. Hopefully between materials and the fun of doing this I can fund a WBB trip.
My new buggy with bigfoots, kinked downtube and Van's new seat....LOOK OUT! I'm going to be cursing at the Canadians this year..:D
Can't wait to see everyone!
Thanks Sam..as always...wish we could meet and hang with you.

Bruce very nice. Brian I got some stuff at home depot, like cardboard but pvc, cuts with a utility knife. Spray paint and stencils and zip tie it on.
I will have extra and will bring it with me if anyone needs it.
This is a substrate used in the sign industry...about 100.00 for a 4x8 sheet. These are basically a prototype as I want to see how they hold up to the
sand, dents, dings, etc... If they still look good after the 4 days and aren't all scratched up, then I will proceed with more.
Helpful hints for those of you wanting to make your own. Usually vinyl letters and paint will not stick to plastic (UHMW) surfaces.. especially
textured. If you do use spray paint buy the good stuff ...Krylon fusion (made for plastics)...This will help with adhesion...You can even prime the
entire surface first with a product made for plastic...Use a green scotch brite pad and skuff it up first...wipe it clean...prime...let dry...then
spray paint color for panel. Put the numbers on last.

Yes both sides are done and in mirror image. Remember numbers will read opposite on the other side of the panel so artwork can affect this. If you
shape a panel make sure you letter the right side. You can put drawings on a piece of glass (table top)and trace them so the other side can be done
the right way.

IndigoWolf turned me on to a product last fall ... think its the same stuff Jeff is talking about ... google SINTRA ... its a PVC plastic sign board
that works great for buggy plates ... I believe Sam suggested 13mm thickness ...... usually suppliers only sell 4'x8' or 4'x4', but I found some
scraps at a sign maker that he gave me for cheap.
Yes Sintra is a sign making substrate that is very durable and is much like BigKid describes...Sign shops will have this in many colors and should
with no problem be able to sell you off a piece...The material that I used is basically a piece of that material sandwiched between two pieces of
aluminum...This makes it bendable without wrinkles in the metal. I also allows me to paint it on a completely smooth (car like) finish...However I do
think mine will take a beating a bit more then using just the sintra and vinyl...we will see...
If anyone needs help or has any questions I would be more then happy to give you some tips and tricks. Just finished up another set last night....WBB
coming soon....

I used a sheet plastic from http://www.interstateplastics.com/ and Trimble SketchUp to design the graphics and a sign shop printed the graphics on vinyl and applyed it to the
plates.
