first jump

Relatively new to the sport. Got a landboard & 2.5m beamer,
4m blade on the way (with any luck).
Went to Aberavon today and it was blowing 30mph+. Didn't have the bottle to get on the board so a mate showed me how to jump. I got off the ground with the little Beamer and didn't break anything!!:singing:
Yay first post!!!!

I took my 7m Bullet out in 20mph winds. I got lifted 20ft and it dropped me like a rock :o. If I were you, I wouldnt even consider putting up a 4m in 30mph+ winds. *also first post*

30+ Your a mad man:lol:
I went out today after work ( Friday 13th )
Winds were 20ish with some good gust.
I was lifted just standing there twice with My little Ozone Samurai 3m..
Just a foot or so, but didnt think my sami would ever do that:puzzled:
No way I was to take the Blade out yet..

I flew the blade for the first time yesterday. Lumpy, gusty wind (just offshore 3-17mph). Didn't attempt any jumps, want to get used to blade first. Did a bit of boarding, got lifted a couple of times (a foot or so up) landed okay. The blade behaved itself well, only collapsed on me a couple times. I had a great day:tumble:

First real jump last night, I've gotten some 2-3ft jumps with the 9m Buster, but for some stupid reason I get it in my head to try a pendulum jump with the 13m Cent in about 10mph winds, I knew I was in trouble after the first 2-3 seconds when I was still going up. Anyhoo, only about 5-6ft up but well over 20ft across and came down hard on my ankle. I came down softly enough, just sort of lost my composure 1/2 way through the jump.

Lesson learned, next time rely on the knee pads more.

I would say anyone wanting to jump should read some basic instructions on a PLF or "Parachute Landing Fall" This is an essential technique for skydivers and may save your bones someday.

http://ridgedancer.sfbapa.org/content/view/25/81/
and
http://www.dukesofwindsoar.com/dukes.cgi?do=html&htmlfil...

both have some basic info. It may look foolish but the more you practice this, the less chance of pain.

here is an even better one:

http://www.sportparagliding.com/?p=education&ed=PLF

I have tried it and it helps when you cannot nail the landing or you improperly steer the kite while airborn and start getting pulled more sideways.

Be safe!

That's exactly the way i fell when i did my first accidental jump. The thing that really get's me is landing weirdly and twisting my ankle(s). The ther day i think my ankle compressed too much, really hurts. But to avoid the falling sideways thing, just make sure you always have the kite infront of you, so if it does pull you up, you'll fall forwards.

Mmm.
