Front fender,... Just in the nick of time!!!

So a few months back I picked up a trailer fender from Northern Tool and Equipment with the intent of making a front fender for the bug... "I'll have time to get it done before JIBE" ... I'm sure,... Well now about 4 or 5 months later (Possibly longer than that) I've dragged it out of the car and finally done something with it...

I started with this:

It was a 7" wide fender about 20" long. To make it fit my comp XR front fork I cut about 1.5" out of the middle, welded it back together and ground the crud out of it... I rounded the front and back so that part was done. I wanted to make it 2 toned, so I decided to make a mounting bracket out of 1.5" flat bar with the intent of painting that a different color than the fender itself. I fiddled with the additional supports and sorted that out.

Like I said, I decided to make it 2 toned and since I wanted it to match my existing stuff on my VTT Stinger-XR hybrid buggy, I decided to match the black widow seat so I painted it black and red, finishing up just in time for JIBE.

Here it is before it's mounted on the front fork.

And here it is lookin' pretty all put together

Here you can see how I was trying to match the red stipe Van made on the Black Widow seat.

Thanks and enjoy

Looks great.

Yours is a very classy bit of work. Matches well.

On mine, I used a bit of a truck tyre, inner tube as a mud flap below my gard and it's wider to stop the spray when your turning.
It will fold back if it hits any resistance.
I pop riveted it onto the tyre side of the gard, using small 3mm washers to stop the rivets pulling through the flap.

Leave it longer than necessary and just keep trimming it till it clears the ground with you in it. Mine runs with only 15mm clearance and is nice and flexible when you run through wheel tracks etc.

Obviously more then just a DYI guy....Nicely done and looks very professional. Did a great job on cutting it in half rewelding and grinding it out. I especially love the brackets make to hold it on the fork since this is a challenge not having places for support on that PL Fork.

Paint scheme ties it all together too.

Not this time around, but I will most likely be going to JIBE next year with Scott (flyguy0101) and look forward to meeting you. Have a great time and be proud of the homemade buggy bling..No better feeling then to pull it off yourself.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the compliments, I'm pretty proud of how it turned out,... It looks pretty good in the pics but up close you can see the flaws, but that's the case with just about anything. I've really been honing my welding skills lately at work and at home on the new buggy stuff, and I'm starting to enjoy it almost as much as woodwork.

Anyhow, thanks for the compliments, I guess Art school was good for something after all

Don't listen to Spencer. That fender looks every bit as awesome in person as it does in the pictures. Very impressive indeed.
