Holy crap man, you're gonna hurt yourself.
It's really ballsy to jump to a 14m C kite from a trainer. And by ballsy I mean "you are so lucky you did not get hurt". And I'm not kidding at all.
1. kite is a c-kite. this means POWER, and no forgiveness.
2. kite is older, so will have a safety system that might not be amazing, resulting in injury if you try to go to the safety release and the kite does
not power down appropriately. (and how would you know if you've even hooked it up correctly without someone to teach you?)
3. you are flying on land without a helmet. This is a good way to get brain injuries!
4. if that was 16mph winds, with a kite that size and power, and your skill level...... you'd be in the hospital. be very glad it wasn't 16mph.
(looks to be about 6-7mph based on tree movement)
WE WANT YOU TO HAVE FUN! But we don't want you to get hurt.
Where are you? Maybe we can direct you to a local school or club where you can get more flying time on kites bigger than trainer, but not big enough
to kill you at your "new to sport" skill level.....like that one will.
Tide? What's a tide? Man, it's 1000 miles to any ocean.

Yeah i will have to agree with ewinds, i have ozone fury 6m as first kite and it is a little difficult even in 6-10mph wind. Try practice yours in
lighter wind first once you feels comfortable with it, you can move up. One step at time!

Erratic I know that this kite is insanely dangerous but i couldn't resist not using it im completely bored with the trainer kite. I had it rigged
correctly i looked up the rigging online, I also tested the safety systems they work well, the kite depowers completely and flags out. Also i had
the kite on the edge of the wind window most of the time so it did not have to much power i felt how much power it had when it went through the power
zone its not fun. I am getting kitesurfing lessons next month.

So glad to hear that you are getting a lesson! I don't want to sound like a nanny, I just don't want to see people get hurt and quit the sport before
they really start!
The best way to get more fun out of a trainer is to fly it in a parking lot on a skateboard, I'd say...

The winds were 6 - 13. I tryed to convince him not to fly that beast. Does what he wants. Also flying les than 100' from a six lane highway. I have to
stay clear of this.

This is a major NO NO !
Please remember that when your kite goes out on the highway we ALL pay for your mistake. You are representing all of us out there and your mistakes
can create REAL issues for everybody trying to access flying locations.
There is very little room in this sport for bad choices. I think you just got away with one. 2 if you count no helmet.
Sounds like you only tested 1/2 of your safety. Be sure you know how to pull the second release and disconnect from the kite completely. Be prepared
to use full release if you are flying that close to moving vehicles.

I do have enough sense to know not to put that kite up when the wind is blowing in the direction of the highway as you can see in the video it was
flying the opposite direction of the highway.

My first Big kite was a 14m 2003 C kite too. Its not actually more powerful but it is has LOTS of lift and virtually no depower at the bar like a
modern kite. 16 mph is only 14 kts which is about right for a 14m C - on the water at least. in 6-13 i would be more worried about the kite falling
out of the sky than it lifting me into the sky.
If you want to do something useful with it get in the water and body drag. There is much less chance of hurting yourself and body dragging is an
essential skill for kitesurfing if you don't want to lose your board. Your kite is designed to work while moving so its never going to be fun to fly
static.
The forum may seem full of health and safety fanatics but they are right to advise a helmet as minimum protection. Accidents, particularly on beaches,
can lead to kiting being banned at those locations which sucks for everyone and is really unfair on those taking care to act responsibly.
Its less of an issue in the UK where its much more expected that people will do mad stuff and hurt themselves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=semzVdaACTU not a helmet in sight in this vid.
Be carefull but you will learn more by doing stuff than by worrying about the consequences

Im going to use a helmet next time and "Be careful but you will learn more by doing stuff than by worrying about the consequences." Thats exactly what
i was thinking when i decided to fly this kite.

Sorry for jumping all over you William.
I took it from the quote that the highway was 100' down wind.
I agree that it didn't look like way too much wind to try out the kite. It looked to me like it needed pumped up more ? The leading edge should be
rock solid.

Its all good,I guess i kind of deserved it for not wearing a helmet. I had the leading edge pumped to about 7 pounds it does bend a little but it
feels like a rock.
