SOBB - Spring 2013
Well,
Spring SOBB is over for me...
Nice gathering of good friends and new friends not turned off by the weather forecasts. The forecast looked great but mother nature had a little to
say about that. The guys in buggy camp held down the tents with what ever they had and tried to stay dry too.
Personally, I had a great time. West winds on Friday meant a run out to the shipwreck chasing sunset-jim and more.
Saturday brought SW winds and many rain squalls though. It also brought some pretty good downwind runs. I maxed out at 41.9 mph with an RII 5.5
The other thing we got on the long weekend were the clamers Thousands of people
lining the beach and tons of traffic......
Sunday brought us SSW winds over 20 mph - everyone was on small kites and ripping down the beach. The highlight for me was to see Scudley blaze
through buggy camp withe 2 meter reflex on the little flexi buggy well into the high 30's
Monday was a washout for buggying. Coffee with K3 with wind in the 20 - 40 mph range and rain to go with meant a road trip south. The weather cleared
and a few went to the beach - to watch Eli rip around for a while.
Tuesday brought more SW winds and a little rain. Still managed to buggy alot.
Wednesday was the best... West wind all day long. Tandems, Jetty runs, Shipwreck 2 or 3 times all at 30 to 40 mph
Thanks to my friends who put on this event, invited everyone for dinners, made us all feel welcome and shared your beach.
You guys are the best!
Good winds to all who are still there.
See you all again soon.

Nice summation Ron, what a great time. The weather can be pretty fickle this time of year. Didn't help that we ended up with the 4th wettest May
EVER, and the fact that 85% of the months rainfall fell in the last half of the month. Not a bad price to pay though to be able to reap the rewards
of some of the best conditions EVER!
Now on to Spring SOBB 2013 part II this weekend.

Thanks a TON to everybody that put out to make the 1st weekend of SOBB a real great time !
Thanks to everybody at buggy camp for the spaghetti spread on Sat. . + the general good times ! We are very lucky that Phil allows us to have a great
place to gather. Thanks to Sunny J for reminding us to show gratuity $$ ! I know I was guilty of not contributing last year but hope I made it up.
Thanks to Jon for the great BBQ. on Sunday. Always a nice place to hang out and great food.
Sounds like I missed out on the best of winds so far. This is why it's good SOBB is over 2 weekends !
Drive home in pouring rain and then single lane on the Massey tunnel made driving home a lousy part of a wonderful weekend.
13 weeks and counting down until fall SOBB and a BIG 10th birthday for the event ! :singing:

Thanks for all the great times everybody, it was one for the record books.
While we all have many friends, I think my best friends are kite flyers.
Thank you,
Chris C1

I too would like to thank everyone who has made this a fantastic event.
I did a PB on the Tuesday morning that I had to leave (40.9mph)
I also want to give a huge thanks to Chris (sand flea) who came to my rescue when I OBE'd (Its kind of tough to wrestle with your kite in 20 mph winds
and watch your buggy roll into the ocean...lol)
I'll have to plan the whole week next time
Cheers

Was a great time on the beach and in camp. There were lots of lots of experienced people to share their guidance, which helped immensely. Thanks to
Eli and Jeff for loaning me kites for me to learn on. Can't wait til fall when I should hopefully have it all figured out.
