Salt Lake City Area

I'm a newbie (Flexifoil Wide-Axle buggy in hand) located in Salt Lake City. Send me a U2U if you are in the area and wish to exchange contact info or just exchange some U2U emails!

Wondering, what local area sites are good (and big enough). Looking for parks as well as more information on exactly where to go near Salt Lake City for the best buggy sites along the Great Salt lake near Grantsville/Tooele not far from the City. Planning on visiting the world famous Bonneville Salt Flats soon, that location is 2 hour drive from the city.

Assuming a high friction grass park would be good for a beginner to maintain tight kite lines easier? Not to mention to reduce road rash during the learning curve.

Thanks for any thoughts or local knowledge.

I know of a couple people who run out at Salt Aire, the beaches can be fun but the brine is a little discomforting in strong winds. I also know of some places out towards Grantsville that are very close to I-80 that are large and flat. Bonneville can be awesome but the salt buildup on the buggy is a mess. Be sure to have a way to hose your buggy down afterwords.

Parks are ok to learn on because the ground is not quite as hard as the beaches or hard packed areas but I have found with the proper safety gear and clothing, it is easier to learn on the hard pack because the buggy rolls so much easier and you can use a kite that is much smaller and more forgiving. You have to work the kite more to get going but the chances of being yanked out (OBE) is much less with the smaller kite.

If you find a great area, be sure to share it with all of us.
