Brand name kite line

I was wondering what brand line do you guys buy (if making your own line sets) and where do you buy in bulk say 1k-1.5km? Also how many strands are typically in kite line? (yea I know how to loop the ends, sew etc..)

I see plenty of eBay spools of line such as Spectra 200# 500# 6, 8 strand etc.. And I was wondering also if kite line is not essentially fishing line/kite line in all the same.

I was looking at 200# for the breaks and 385-400# for the front on my 3.6m Ballistic. Although I am sure it will be an over kill.

thoughts?

I tend to like Shanti Skybond but my kites aren't the heavy lifters a lot of these folks use. Skybond is available in bulk from A Wind of Change in 1000ft lengths.

As for your other question, in general fishing line is not kite line. The stretchiness of fishing line make it very good for keeping a hook in a fish's mouth but drastically and negatively influences reaction time in a multi line kite. Kind of like flying with rubber bands.. there may be some fishing line that would be suitable but I haven't come across any yet..

Q line is awfully heavy for a three meter kite.
You only have to sleeve if you are tying your loops. If you splice your loops, no need to sleeve.
