Size for static flying?

I'm looking for a kite for static flying in 8-10 knots and I'm about 68 kg (150 lbs). Looking at getting a PKD buster soulfly but I'm not sure if I should go for 1.5m or 2.2m.

Thoughts?

Agreed. If this is going to be used just for static flying in 8-10kns I'd recommend a 2.5-4m kite for you but first flights should be in low winds until you understand how to launch, land and recover the kite without being overpowered, injured or intimidated.

If you want to just have fun with a zippy kite that pulls a little go for a 2.5 - 3m. If you want something to really work your arms and get you scudding go for a 3.5 - 4m but you really shouldn't go any bigger than that and even a 4m can be too big if you don't respect it and go out in winds too strong for your abilities.

As above .... because after you have some fun with 3-4m static flying you will start asking questions about buggy, snow and water .... lol .... and that kite will give you good start with those too .....

The 1.5m or 2.2m would be a great trainer kite, and best of all I think they would still give you a run for your money at 150 lbs.

I had a 3.6 ballistic and it could drag me around @ 178 in good winds (13+).

1.5m would be quite small but a nice little kite to get you experiencing the kite world at a small entry cost. Just be ready to go on to bigger and better things. It's quite addictive.

have fun

yes max 3m would be better choice and should have third line - break line in my opinion. With 3rd line you will kite more safely, learn how to reverse relaunch etc.

Just to clarify I'm after a kite for static flying for fun on the beach, I don't want to be dragged around. I've been kitesurfing for years but I'd like something fun to fly in on low wind beach days.

After flying static both my power kites, I wouldn't go any higher than 3 square meters. If you go for a bigger size such as around 3 meters, I'd recommend buying a kite with quad handle control along with staying away from 2-line control bars. I struggled trying to turn a 3.5M Hydra II that I borrowed, which turned with a 2-line bar.

2.5 square meters or less should be the most fun for you, depending on your average wind conditions. The Snapshot 2.5 was probably my most fun static-flying kite because it turned sharp for its size while still offering decent light wind performance, so I'd personally go for that.

Since you've clarified I am going to change my recommendation to a 2.5m kite on handles. I weigh 145#s and my 2.5m JOJO is a blast to static fly on the beach. Enough pull to scud if I loop it yet small enough to just zip around in normal winds.

Any of the busters will be fine. And they can be flown on a bar or handles.
Pete was static flying this weekend with a 10m on loooooooooong lines.

Any small kite in the 1m-2.5m will be ok with out any pull and still flyable.
