Thanks for that.... definitely smile worthy.

The feline quotient around here has recently ratcheted up, with the addition of 2 feral kittens that we are fostering.

Pretty sure the mother was hit by a car, and the 3rd sibling went MIA.

We have taken to calling one of the kittens Braveheart, as he tends to put fear in the backseat when he is exploring.

The other one has earned the name October. Within hours of being captured, he bolted from the cage as I was feeding them, ducked into the laundry room (which is only partially finished), and vanished into the crawl space between the the basement and first floor. Somewhere along the way, he entered the central A/C duct work (hmmmm.... maybe we could have called him Bruce (Willis) or John (McClain)).

For the better part of a week, I could hear him/her in the walls/ducts, especially in the wee hours of the morning, but was still having a hard time locating him. Cat noises downloaded to my Kindle was helpful when I could get him to answer the recorded meows.

Then this past Sunday on a whim I removed as many of the maintenance panels on the A/C unit and surrounding duct work. October was found in the evaporation chamber. Frantic, but still in pretty good shape, he tried to bolt back into the ducts, but I snagged him by his hind quarters.

Due to the narrow ducts and inline flues I couldn't wear gloves doing this, so he was able to convey his displeasure in no uncertain terms, much to the woe of my hands and forearms.

Socialization process for both kittens proceeds slowly while they bed down in the spare bedroom.

Attached is a picture of Braveheart, when he was exploring the deck in the days prior to capture. I don't have pictures of October yet, as I wasn't prepared to subject him to the trauma of a camera flash given his wind tunnel ordeal in the A/C system.

Trivia: Cats have a burst speed (even if it's only for a short distance) of 30 mph. You don't often see it, but it's truly impressive when they reach anywhere near their upper limit.

ATB,
Sam

That's a beautiful cat. :cool2:

Cat's can out sprint dogs but they lack the lung capacity and thus stamina to sustain that level of activity for as long as a dog can. I'm not surprised to hear they can hit 30 mph. My current cat had numerous upper respiratory issues prior to her adoption which has left her with a deviated septum like condition. After any vigorous play or when she is really tired she whistles out her nose and then resorts to mouth breathing.
