Wind Meter for your smartphone

Weatherflow Meter

Just ordered one of these. It looks to do a better job than the dedicated unit I already have. But now I won't have to fiddle with the expensive lithium batteries. It even allows you to post the results online to share.

Looks cool. Pic is odd... Phone upside down for headphone jack, does it go into the Apple connector? Wonder how it works with Android.
Looking forward to a review, small, good price, no batteries

It plugs into the headphone jack. Works with droid too I saw on the site. I'll post up about it once it arrives.

Also allows you to share results on the wind finder site.

Much prefer non-housed wind meters that don't require ya to face into the direction of the wind to get a true reading....

If you read the info, this one is accurate to about .2 mph within 15 degrees off the wind. That's easy for even a child to do right. The other model you mention looks somewhat vulnerable to carry in the kite bag. I'm thrilled to get rid of the battery hassles with the one I've had for years.

Nice idea, even though I have no intention of bringing my phone out to the beach, both for the beating on the phone as well as its what I am getting away from (phones, alarms, sirens, beeping, etc :-) know what I mean? just wind, surf, birds, etc.

I leave mine in the car unless I have a jacket on. I also launch right in front of the car, so me my phone and my car are all in the same spot. All right where I'm deciding which kite to get out.

Any word on these things BB or BM about accuracy? I would love a good little rugged wind meter to take with me to the beach when I buggy. I would like to start getting a feel for how accurate my forecasts actually are once I get out there. That way I could know what to expect a bit better in the future.

I haven't gotten to Ivanpah with mine yet due to wet conditions but tested it in the front yard with some really spinning gusty winds. It seemed to match what I was feeling. Stated accuracy is to within .2 mph so it seems this is the real deal. No additional batteries and it looks like a rugged design that won't get torn up. I just keep it in my Gopro/gps bag so I'll have it all the time.
