What did you use for your seat?

So due to aquiring some great blades for free today, my "ice buggy someday" back burner project just became "ice buggy this week!"
I have a pretty good idea how the buggy will go together, my question for buggy builders is;

What is your bum resting on, is it comfy and where did you get it?!

It's going to be a low-riding iceboat style buggy with foot steering. Maybe a big yacht too. I have tons of blades :thumbup:

Edit: ditched the crab buggy idea

Custom camo seat out of cordura that I made. I have a picture somewhere that I can post later.

Yeah, that is a nice seat, Susan! Is this generally the best way to do a seat, where there is not really a standalone "seat" but it is more built into the frame with padding?

I used shade sail canvas. Waterproof, uv stable, but expensive. $60/m

Misc. fiberglass seats work well. Secure with webbing , pad rails with pipe insulation. Cheap!

All the manufactured buggys have a seat more or less that is built into the frame. Some of the home built buggys have done things different. You want a seat that is comfy so you can ride for hours without a break.

For a ice sled, The Manta Landsailer has a molded seat with 4 point mounting on the bottom its

resonably priced and available as a replacement part.

The fiberglass seat sounds easy to mount to the prototype as it will be wood and i can just screw it down. Where do you get these assorted seats though? Buy a chair and cut off the legs?

If you want a seat that fits a Peter Lynn buggy (either XR+ style or older Competition (ST) ) I know there a small number sitting in Ontario. I can put you in touch with the guy if interested to work out a deal. But then you would need a design with side support to wrap the webbing to suspend the seat.

Thanks for the offer markite but this buggy is going to have a seat mounted on a flat surface, there's not going to be a way to hang a sling-type seat.

I like the boat seat idea since it is going to be rather like a small iceboat.

Hoping with a bit of effort I can get an ugly prototype together for the weekend, then I can test it behind the quad when we go ice fishing :thumbup:

I am "fortunate" to live in an area of the USA thats called "The Rust Belt" meaning there is lots of stuff thats been here a long time and is generaly in disrepair or decay. I can usualy find what I need free in someones house sale and junk , or cheap in one of the 10 thrifts stores around here. I've got plastic boat seats on my sleds and they have held up well , on the buggies not so well , hard ground is less forgiving.
