Why u want to do that ??? ...
I think answer is yes .... I think there is no tension on 5th line when kite is in air , but u can easily test this .... get kite in air at zenith
position and try to pull 5th line ..... if it moves up and down with no force and its not changing shape of kite , then is not used as part of bridal
system ...

Yea, that would be a follow up question-- is it a bad idea to do that?
I'd like to be able to use a 4-line Ozone bar with the GIN. The 4-line is a bit less cluttered and I'd like to cut some weight for BC touring.. two
kties, one bar.

I find 5th line safety very useful in stronger winds .... You don't need fight with kite to get it back on ground like you do when using steering
lines to land .... I like being overpowered so I really use that a lot ....
Also bar from your 8m Ozon is probably shorter ... it will make harder to turn 13m kite ..... check if de-power travel is about the same ....
also if line lengths on Ozone and Gin are same .... if not .. you would need proper extensions ...

Is the bar you're talking about for a fixed bridle kite or a depower kite. If it is a fixed bridle control bar, it will not work with a depower kite.
I only ask because the term "quad" or "4-line" typically references a FB kite
Tell us more about the control bar.
I'm going to take a nap now

Given that Gin went with custom sized bars for the Yeti and in my opinion (and that of a few others I've talked to) are effective but short, my guess
is your 8m Ozone bar may be the same length as your 13m Yeti bar - but you can easily figure that out. If the Yeti bar is significantly longer than
the kite will struggle to turn on a shorter bar and struggle even more when depowered on the trim strap.
You could remove the 5th line but its a bit tricky because of the way it is fastened below the bar. IIRC, you would need to detach it from the kite
side, remove the stopper ball if there is one (can't recall if its only on the eskimo or the yeti too), snake the line through the bar and work at
undoing the connection on the safety release - which isn't all that straight forward and simple. I would leave the bridle connections in place though
that will leave a pigtail dangling on the kite side.
Since the Yeti flies on a Y line set up and prefers shorter rear lines, you may need to add pigtails extensions on your 4 line ozone bar to get the
kite to fly right.
Once all was done, you can use the ozone top hat to kill the kite but I'm not sure how much power would be left in a 13m dropped on the rear lines on
a safety system it wasn't intended for. I can tell you the 14m Eskimo uses a top hat type safety and has a LOT of power on the ground even when
dropped on the safety whereas a 5th line system would have no power on the ground.
So, it is doable but the question is, is it worth it?

.... Brian ... I think he was asking if 4 line Ozone bar can be used with Yeti ..... not if he can remove actual line from Gin bar ....
... but as above .... I would just bring 2 bars with me .... 5th line is really giving you that extra safety .....

Thanks for the info and the step by step. I am starting to think it is more effort than it is worth. And yea, extra safety is never a bad thing.
