MN group of Kite Ski/Boarders Mpls/St.Paul area

Is there any MN kiters that meet on White Bear or Medicine lake or any other lake I can hang out with. I would like to get some tips. I got a Ozone Summit this year and after flying a HQ Hydra for 2 years I hate this kite, I swear its set up wrong.

In order to get it to fly for example I have to have the trim line pulled in in all the way and then pull on the trim line some more in odrer to get any power out of it. Per the directions It should be trim line out for more power.

What am I missing.

I figured out the lake I am on is too small, a lot of dirty wind.
Still can not figure out why during an anchored launch with the sled on the bar holding it parallel to the ground the kit flips over.

That Summit is a very stable kite. Even in dirty winds.

Not sure what you're describing but if I understand correctly the kite is anchored (By the crossover brake handle I assume) and the kite, while on the ground flips over?

If it's dirty wind and you don't salt the tail (bury the trialing edge with snow) it's going to flip over if hit broadside by a gust.

The key is not to unfold the kite until you're ready to launch. In gusty wind, the less time messing about at the anchor the better off you'll be.

Yes, I am often on White Bear any weekend there is wind. I am rarely the only one out there. A lot of people seem to use Facebook to meet up with others and after avoiding that for quite some time I have started to use it. The LAKAWA forum is another option and it is also free.

Do you use either of those resources or just this forum? If you want to send me a U2U here with an e-mail address or phone number to contact you with I can let you know when I am heading out there.

I may be able to help. I have an older Frenzy that I am quite familiar with. It has a four-line bar though, not the five-line bar that I think the Summit has.

Summit = stable and a good low end

The 5 th line leaves room for improvement

You may have a few lines crosses in the pulley's This happens if the kite has imploded ( frontal collapse) the leading ede flips over the kite itself

It's likely trimmed perfectly, after riding the summit for a bit, I found that any twists in the lines or bridle may very well be the culprit

Double check everything

Start in light winds

If it still isn't flying? The line
I the actual pulley (4:2:1) May be a half in or so too
Long

It is a common issue with foils that have a compound complex pulley system
If the lines that run between the pulleys ate just a hair
to long it can fly slightly stalled
Which sounds like your issue,,

If it still isn't flying? The lines connecting the actual pulleys (4:2:1) May be a half in or so too long ( even 1/4 inch can make a huge difference ) you could in do
And tie simple
Knots near the connection points and see if this
Helps it wouldst likely be the higher lines or the line that directly connects to the leading edge
