Spring Break Question

I have some questions for anyone familiar with Florida. We are planning to go to Florida for spring break with the kids at the last minute. We would be there in a week. Will it be worth bringing my kites or will there be too many people on the beach to try and use them. Also, does anyone know any lesser known spots that would be good to go to since we are leaving last minute and vacancy might be an issue?

Thanks.

I have only been to a few beaches in Florida, and I don't think I have been to one big enough to kite on that wasn't slammed with tourists.

That's what I was thinking, I'll still have to bring them. Maybe I can get a little bit of very early morning time.

St Petersburg is super chill. In South Florida (Miami etc) there are a lot of restrictions.

Ask a life guard if there is one around.

Here is a good resource for you:

Too many kites, boards, and etceteras.

Florida has a lot of beaches. :D I usually fly at Cheri Down Park Cape Canaveral.
We share the beach peacefully with the beachgoers year round. Low tide makes for a lot of room whether static or landboarding. If your out on the water, you could fly almost anywhere there is wind.

Thanks for the tips, I wasn't planning on riding, just flying static if I got the chance. And yeah, I would love to use the week at Jibe but this is the first time our work and school schedules have lined up to be able to go somewhere on spring break so we're trying to take advantage of it. I'm still working on possibly going to Jibe for a couple days but not sure yet.

BR is right,... I haven't been there, but I hear good things about St Augustine. Pbc always talks about Anastasia State park... It is supposed to be really good for kiting.

U2u PBC and ask him where the best spot is there... I haven't seen him on the forum much lately, but I met him at JIBE and he's a super nice guy.

Of course you could just as easily go to Jekyll Island... It's probably closer, less populated, more family friendly, less expensive, and VERY kiteable... Plus you might be able to meet up with Angus!! He's not able to buggy yet, but will probably come meet you in spite of that.

Depending on where we go I might be going through Atlanta and I'd like to stop by Jekyll island possibly.

Going to St. Augustine. Thanks BR, I wouldn't have thought of it on my own and yes it is the oldest city. Soliver, I'm probably going through atlanta but wasn't planning on stopping. I'll email you if we end up staying a night there to or from. It sounds like your pretty busy preparing for the new arrival though. Hope everything goes well.

Shoot me am email if you stop for the night and I can at least point you to a good spot to eat.

We're just playing the waiting game right now (due date = Monday)... By the time you're on your way back, we'll have likely added to the world population by 1 so we might have our hands full. We shall see!!!

Have fun in FLA... I'm sure either PBC or Kiteballoon can tell you the best spots in Anastasia state park.

Be sure and give lots of time for touristy stuff around St. Aug' . So much to see from the old Fort to Flagler College. + of course an amazing beach !

I really enjoyed my visit there and would go back in a heartbeat !

Didn't see your thread, but I hope you had fun @ St. Augustine.

St Augustine is great, and shouldn't be an issue with tourists. Walk the 1/8 mile past the boardwalk and you'll find yourself staring at 3 miles or so of unspoiled beach with no beachgoers lying about. Major beach nourishment has been going on for the past year, and the beach is as wide as ever. Hope you clocked in some nice runs!

Did you visit the north end and see the buried pipe? It's leftover from the nourishment work; I guess something happened and they weren't able to finish. So for now the pipe remains.

Sadly, my stuff is all packed for the desert, otherwise I would have been happy to join. The buggy is in pieces in a box :-)
