Flyguy not sure what your after but here is the basic idea of what I'm doing.
http://www.mdpub.com/Wind_Turbine/

Mine is different in the fact it is a higher rpm motor.( I used a scooter motor) so I am having to gear it luckily the motor came with a gear and chain.

Abkayak that is PVC 6" diameter 29" long you cut into 4ths then cut a taper on it. It is super easy. I'm waiting for the hubs to show up. It was cheaper and easier to just buy a hub from fleabay then to try and make one.

A little more info about the motor it's a 2500 rpm 24 volt motor. So I should be able to charge a large battery and run my camper say at Ivanpah or Jibe...

Pyro, you could even leave that thing on your camper top while you are towing it down to take advantage of highway speed winds :)

We have plans for a highway blade it will need to be able to handle 125 mph winds so a 6-7" blade 4 inches wide is what we are looking at.

I don't think that motor will cut it. In your link it says to use a very low RPM motor (325 RPM). A 2500 rpm motor that is geared has too much friction and will have difficulty producing voltage unless your expecting gale force winds.

I was able to turn the motor by hand now yes there will be a little friction and I will have to wait for 15 mph to get it rotating. Worst case senerio I have to buy real blades. The ones I want are on fleabay at 109$ plus 20$ shipping for 6 blades. They are longer and way more efficiant than my pvc blades.

Just to give you an idea of what the large scale wind turbines that I work on are spec at:

generator : 1600 to 2500 rpm
gear box : 1 to 100 ratio
blade rpm : 16 to 25 rpm
blade tip to tip diameter: 100 meters
power produce: 3 million watts

The wind that it runs best in is 15mph to 22mph. We have an inverter .. huge one .. that converts the voltages 900VDC to AC then step it up to 14KV.

Looks like your setup should be fine if you can get the blade to turn at about 20 rpm for optimum power assuming your gear ratio is 1 : 100 ... lol.

Actually .. our blades turn slow because they are huge. The smaller units actually turns much faster so need a smaller ratio.

Thanks Van. Mine for full wattage would be 312ish rpms but I don't think I would ever need 250 watts so it turning at 100 rpms would be fine it just needs to charge a battery or 2 for small thing like a fan or extreme low wattage AC unit or home built AC unit and lights.
