So, any of you quad pilots have experience / knowledge using FPV goggles. ie Fatshark or others? I have been researching the hell out of this with either a Phantom, V1.1.1 or FC40 or 2 etc, or the Blade QX 350, Walkera QR 350 Pro, Parrott ARDrone. I'm upgrading my small quad with a small camera, to something that is able to fly in higher winds, and has a better camera. But I also what it compatible with FPV goggles. Without a lot of modification. If I have to do that then I would look into building my own.
Whenever I think I find what I'm looking for, I find conflicting reports about signals not working with each other etc.

Generally most of the guys at my flying club use the Zeiss goggles, but others I know swear by the Fatsharks. Keep the quad on a 2.4 gHz system and the fpv gear on 5.6 gHz, 600 mW , separate them as far as possible on the quad and you'll be good. Personally I like the Möbius camera for the main flying view, and use a gorog for filming, but not flying through. The Möbius is 1080p, 30 fps which is great for flying, and it's way smaller the the gopro. Yake a look at flitetest.com, they have tons of fpv info!

I have tried the skyshark dual and a homebrew getup made out of an oculus rift and oh my goodness the oculus rift one was amazing, because the screens were quite literally 60% bigger than the skyshark dual.

Can't wait to see what the future holds.

I'm setting up my first FPV rig, and just went with a smaller screen instead of goggles. Turn key system for $120, it's a start I guess, mounting it to a WL 262. yeah it's only 200mw, and still on the slow boat, but for $120 for TX/RX and screen, I figured it was something to try out..

I just got a Mobius too, but went with the wide angle lens that has too much fish eye, returning that for a normal lens. only $75 on ebay from spytec in new York.

I use the Fat Shark Attitude with my DJI F550. It's about $300 which includes everything (camera, transmitter, goggles w/built in receiver). It takes a little getting used to when flying FPV with a multicopter. You can get really nauseated since the copter and turn and spin rapidly. Also, you have a narrow field of view so it's hard to see what's going on side to side. The Attitude has head tracking so you can setup your camera to pan when you turn your head.

As with all hobbies, things turn into a slippery slope sometimes.


I've upgraded into still a very affordable system, but now a larger frame "toy/hobby grade" quad copter and am playing with FPV, first person view for piloting around my ranch via live video feed.

It's sorta eerie flying via a 4.3" screen display. I'm still a total noobie, maybe 6-7 flights, you don't have any peripheral perception with it......

I am a total noob when it comes to fpv but i recently picked up the fatshark attitudes and really like them (have nothing to compare with) have been using them on my rockcrawler with a modified head tracking design and am also getting ready to mount on my 250 quad and also my axon (dollar tree foam plane made it for under $10 not counting the electronics)

Reading reviews, the Attitudes are the latest, but a grainy screen and people have range distance problems?

do you get a sense of 3D immersion? don't know if a wider angle lens my the camera would help, or a large screen than my 4.3"

Important changes to model aircraft laws in the USA

The world of FPV is an exciting area of the hobby. With technical innovations and more affordable equipment, it is one of the fastest growing areas of the hobby that thousands of modellers worldwide love.

However, FPV as we know it is in jeopardy.

The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) in the USA have announced that they are modifying the way that they interpret legislation relating to model aircraft flying. This announcement has many implications, but the two points of note that many of our customers will object to is that:
1) Flying a model FPV using goggles will become illegal
2) The FAA are able to further regulate all forms of model aircraft flying.

As the hobby has come into the mainstream over the last few years, the FAA have come under pressure from community groups and the media to address safety concerns. This is their solution.

These changes however are simply a knee-jerk reaction that is flawed and doesn’t address the issue of safety. The AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) have been setting rules and regulations regarding to safety of model aviation for decades and have been doing it extremely well for all parties involved. Members are required to follow these safety rules as a part of membership. Non-members who were not following rules will continue to do so, largely unpoliced, and those who were doing the right thing will no-longer be able to fly FPV legally.

What can you do to stop this?
The easiest (but still effective) method to make your voice heard is to submit a comment to the FAA through regulations.gov showing your opposition to this change and let them know why you think these changes are flawed.

If you are in the US, we would also suggest you show support to the AMA, by becoming a member if you have not already signed up. They are on the side of the hobbyist as well as being large advocates for safety. This is the group you want representing your interests.

Not a US citizen so you think this doesn’t affect you?
Think again. There is a chance these changes could become a model that other nations will adopt.

Not an FPV flyer so you don’t really mind?
You should. This change sets a precedent that could very quickly expand to other areas of the hobby.

Please get your thoughts heard now, this stuff matters.

@ dangerdan- have already made my voice heard but agree all of us in the hobby need to respond.

@ windy heap- head tracking is basicly an accelerometer built into the goggles that will control pan and tilt servos on the vehicle so that if you turn your head to the right the camera on the vehicle will do the same thing. move your head to look up and the camera will "look up" I really like it on my rockcrawler not sure how much i will like it on the quad but think it will be nice on a plane as well since with a plane or truck you know you are going forward- not so with a quad- but i am just guessing have not tried it on the quad yet

so you need a 2 axis gimbal on your machine mounted camera?.

I was torn between flying quads or do I go kiting?! The quad won.

I am still putting together my FPV system but will be going with Fatshark 600 transmitter and probably an eight channel receiver. Look in your basement for an old portable DVD player- Ta-Da! Instant monitor- If screen goes blue when slightly losing signal move on to another monitor, this will eventually cause a crash.

I too am a Mobius fan, tried NUMEROUS mounts trying to get rid of "jello" best set up? Six 32db earplugs glued on the front plate of my DJI 450 with camera velcroed on top. Basic but works! 3d printed Gimbals are starting to come out but none I liked.

Spent WAY too much money on this hobby...then again, spent too much on kites!!

And the feds......this might kill the hobby. I am not putting a lot of money in my FPV setup since I think it will be banned soon. I can't fly at National Parks, Nascar races and other banned areas...hobby might be short lived. back to kiting?
