My new light wind kite!
I’ve been thinking about picking up a light wind kite for a while now. My local conditions tend to be light and this was the biggest gap in my
quiver. I’m also incredibly juvenile and love jumping as much and as high as I can.
I love my Venom I so much that I considered getting an 18m Charger 2. After doing the research I decided it wasn’t a good light-wind fit for me.
My Montana made me really see what foils are all about. The speed and ease of unpacking and packing are really awesome. I considered a 14m Montana
but decided that I wanted a closed cell to prevent the collapse that I would get occasionally with the Montana. It’s no fault of the Montana, its
just that my winds will occasionally drop to 0 with no warning, causing the kite to backslide and collapse.
To counter the collapse I decided to start shopping around for a 15m Matrixx, but when I did, I was disappointed to found that they were out of stock
everywhere. Probably because they're readying the new version of it?
Then a sweet deal came along resulting in this:
Big Image Here
I had two super short sessions on it so far (one at lunch and another after dinner), and I'm convinced I made the right decision. Unpacking and
launching was nearly as easy as my Montana. Landing and packing up was a little more difficult due to the closed cell nature, but still quick and
easy. I was able to cruise along on my ATB in winds that would not fly the Venom at all, and would barely fly the Montana. I’d say the wind was
doing 5-7 mph (I don’t know for sure since I didn’t measure). When the wind picked up just a little bit, I was able to do some nice little floaty
jumps. The only negative thing I noticed was that it did turn rather slow. I think this was more a function of the low wind speed than the size.
Overall I’m very happy with this purchase. Even used they’re still pricy, but I now see why people are willing to pay the big bucks for them. I
can’t wait to get more board (and air) time with this thing!

very cool. I'm jealous, light wind is what I'm lacking but just can't justify another purchase right now. Sounds like you got the right tool for the
job.

Woop Woop great big kite loop!
I sometimes reach up and grab the brake line on my 19 when I need to speed up the turning. It stalls the kite a bit so ...
I am glad you pointed out how Flysurfer may demand a bit more money but when you see the quality of build it all of a sudden makes sense. Did you
notice the little LB rated attachments between the bridle and canopy to become the week link and save your investment ? If it didn't come with a
manual download one. Flysurfer can be adjusted quite a bit.
Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.
Flysurfer : 19m Speed 2 SA, 7m Pulse
Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.
Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

Yeah I can't wait to get some more time on it.
>Did you notice the little LB rated attachments between the bridle and canopy to become the week link
No I didn't notice that! I guess I need to look closer! Also <Grammar Nazi Mode>It's weak link, not week link.. unless we're talking about
connecting the first week and second week of the month together.. </Grammar
Nazi Mode>
>If it didn't come with a manual
It did.. It also came with a bunch of other connector lines to replace some of the parts that can get worn. I think I need to familiarize myself a
bit more before I mess with it too much.
The bag is pretty nice as well. It has a little fold away (when not in use) pocket at the bottom designed to hold the nose of a board so that when
it's strapped to the backpack with the big strap, it doesnt slide down. Nice little feature!

Nice! What size did you get? I've got the same colored kite in 15m. Awesome for light wind and huge lofty jumps.
Too many kites, boards, and etceteras.

elnica: 19m.. Im going to get to fly it again this afternoon. Can't wait.
ssayer/OmniSmurfZ: If you look for a good one used, you can find a decent deal. It's still gonna be around the price of a new kite for some other
brands though.. It's not cheap, but hopefully it's good value!

My experiences with her have been limited but awesome. She definitely can pull me in winds that other kites would not even come close to moving me
in. She did almost kill me once when a gust came through. I unexpectedly took off at what felt like 30mph on the board and was franticly trying to
get my balance centered. It was exhilarating but scary trying to keep the board under me going that fast in a bumpy grass field. Luckily, no crash
took place that day!
Life has been a little too hectic to fly right now (just had a baby daughter! WHOOO!) so I love what I've seen so far, but I think she could use a
tuning up. I sent her off to John at powerzonekitesports to get her inspected and tuned up. It's also way too hot to be out there right now. Looking
forward to seeing her all tuned up and refreshed.
I shed a few tiny tears as I put her in a box and sent her off, but at least I know she's in good hands.
