the wife and i popped to the beach to try out the new kites, winds where very kind to us about 5mph and topped out at about 7-8mph when we left, we

I love how your wife was screaming with delight. She will understand what your new addiction is all about.
If you really love her, buy her a helmet . I have banged my head hard on the beach and am sure my helmet saved me.
Careful with that jumping thing. One day you will actually get lifted and then discover that a 4m kite won't give you any float.
I am not coming down on you. Just hoping to pass on a bit of my personal experience.
