I'm hopeful that someone as had the opportunity to fly both the 7m and 11m Peter Lynn Lynx.

I'm thinking of replacing my 9.5m MontanaVI with an 11m Lynx. The question is:
Can I knock out enough power (trim it in) from an 11m Lynx to be able to step from my 7m Lynx to it as the wind drops?

Most of my flying is at the local soccer field - bumpy grass - but WBB is always the goal. Unfortunately, the wind I fly in has gusts that let/help the Montana show its liftyness (is that a word?) and I like staying in the seat. (I haven't had the Lynx loft me. Yet.)

Suggestions?

If you like I can lend you an 11m lynx to give it a try (just try to keep it somewhat clean). I won't be using it until the fall (buggy) or winter kite skiing.
I find the 11m in a buggy is a fairly light wind machine. The lynx is a very medium AR so as the wind picks up they don't sit as far out front as other kites I would be using that have more flexibility of range (arcs) so I think it would be overpowering before going to your 7. (I also have a 9m I can let you try for kite comparison).

Edit- just occurred to me that Simon (Kitchener) has an 11 / 7 combo and I'll ask him to comment but I don't think he's had enough buggy experience yet to tell. He uses them in the winter more and because he just has one bar he often uses the 11 into some very high winds for that size because he doesn't want to switch the bar over in the middle of the lake.

I have very limited depower experience, and I don't ride over-powered (I'm always on a smaller kite than everyone else), but I am very comfortable with my 7m in our local lumpy 20mph gusts with lulls to 10mph. (Just be prepared to slide a little. :wee: )

It sounds like a 7m and an 11m would be a good combination if your able to use the 7 between 10 and 20 mph. I'd really like to try an open cell sometime. Although, at this point, I'd be fine with just getting some wind!!

Overall I haven't used the full range of lynx kites in the buggy, I've used them more in the winter but have used the 11 in the buggy and found it worked well as a very light wind kite. I'd say wind ranges are probably comparable to similar style depower in the same sizes. It will depend partly on what surface you are on as a smooth hardpack I was rolling with the 11m when it was only about 5 mph but probably wouldn't be moving on grass as easily. Then depending on weight and how much power you like to hold would determine the mid to upper ranges. I have another friend that is much smaller and lighter than me and I would have guessed he would be one size down but he's usually 2 sizes down. He says he gets overpowered with his 9m by just over 15 kmh (around 9-10mph) when I would be thinking that's getting into the sweet part of the range from there up a bit. So I could give you numbers on what it would use as a guess for the buggy but you may be a size down from me.

I like the Lynx. For long runs, that is what I use on the buggy. when on the soccer fields I switch to a fixed bridle. Perfect kite for what you are looking for.
