Wow... So that hurt a lot!!!... My heel is broken for sure... I'm in a splint with crutches now until I see an orthopedic or podiatrist to determine if I need surgery or not (praying vigilantly for NOT).

So with all of that being said, I bow out of the race to 27 with a word of caution to all my kite buddies... I didn't think it'd happen to me... And it did, so everyone PLEASE be careful...

Pretty sure I'll be good for JIBE

To answer the questions...

So I was moving along somewhere in the teens mph and decided to put th kite high and turn... However I put it too high and I think I got caught by a gust... The next thing I knew I was in the air, looking down and thinking "wow I'm high and this is going to hurt"... By instinct I pulled the breaks and came down hard on my left heel... Yes it was scary... The high in the air part...

Yes I was alone, but at a public park with lotsa people, but no one seemed to notice... Called Ashli in a panic ...calmed down... I hobbled to the kite smashed it into a wad and put it in the buggy then sat on it and used it like a wheel chair to get back to the rest of my gear... Ashli showed up as I had gotten the buggy on the kite mobile so I drove back to work and she followed... Then to the ER... And had to wait for about an hour and a half. That's the bulk of the aftermath

Spencer, sorry to hear about the foot, sucks, but it will heal. Sorry you lost this little fight, but I am sure you will not lose the battle.

I was worried about that for you. That's one of the first things that popped in my mind.

Spencer, sorry to hear you got hurt. Hope you heal soon.
Now, were the hell was the qr I gave you? If your wife and all the kids dont beat you to a pulp they should. Lucky you landed on your feet and not your head.
Dont think for a second I have no sympathy for your pain and your situation, because I can relate. Been there, and have no desire to return.
Let this time be about healing and family. Tomorrow will be soon enough to think about yesterday. At least you have the ability to live and learn, and if you dont, your wonderful wife will help you remember. Hope you dont join the titanium club my friend........

You guys know the true happy ending to this is for both of you to meet your goals.

And on the wife issue, I badly sprained my ankle right after I learned to buggy and might've (ahem) twisted the story a little so as not to draw attention to kites and buggies. Crutches and air cast for probably 2-3 weeks. It was at least a year before I approached "healed". A break might actually be a quicker heal than a soft tissue injury.

Thanks for all the kind words Gang...

I myself am seriously considering the ramifications of our activities... My livelihood comes from my ability to do physical labor, so serious injuries affect more than just myself... I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but the dollars I'm going to have to put into possible surgery and medical treatment are going to hurt and have me giving serious thought to how to proceed.

I hate this for you. I feel your pain in regards to the financial side of injury. My wife had to go to the er recently for kidney stones and it cost us $6,000.

Spencer, I feel your pain! I broke a rib this summer and it was 8 weeks until I could get back out and fly again. The pain was the easiest part as waiting to get back out nearly killed me. I hope you heal fast!

Get better Spencer we want to see you at JIBE again !
I've been to the "what now" place before and am still here. We learn from experience and dial down the limits a bit.

I'm hoping for the best outcome for you.

Yea... Dialing it down is definitely in the cards... Ashli & I have been having some serious conversations about that.
