New GoPro HERO (First Impression)
GoPro HERO @ Amazon
1080p for less than $150.. I purchased one to add another point of view and to do some KAP without risking the HERO BLACK 3,,
No video yet so I will follow up with another post reviewing that aspect.
First Glance it is a different animal from the others.. It's permanently embedded in the housing which can be both good and bad. Adds to weather
proofing but makes a simple scratch more risky.. Also not fond of no user replaceable battery.. The internal battery is all you have and when it dies,
You're done.. Outside of those two items, I think it looks great and has the potential of getting some great alternate footage. I may rethink putting
it up on a kite though since a scratch on the housing over the lens is a permanent feature on all future recordings..
This will probably end up being the static camera on the tripod or the helmet cam..
More to follow..

Thanks for that info Riff...
On a similar note, I borrowed a Hero 2 for my last session (the Post-Turkey Tandem) as a second POV and I thought for my purposes it was just as well
suited as the Hero 3... Served me very well and I thought the footage was just as good as the 3.
I'm going to take a nap now

So it's a nice little camera and performs as advertised.. I need to work on my mount a bit as my footage was shaky when in motion.. Not the camera's
fault for sure.... No complaints.

just wondering about the mount.
If you are power kiting or ATBing the helmet mount would be better than chest mount right?
Also does wearing a helmet give the camera more stability than without the helmet?
Sorry for all the noob questions.. want to make sure I am buying the right equipment..

A helmet mount gives a very steady mount. except the mount moves every time you look around,,, (and you'll be surprised at how much you move your
head..)
A chest mount is also very stable but tends to get a lot of arm videos..
I had it mounted to the axle today and had lots of vibration..

Riff, I used a piece of 1/2" conduit about 12" long on a Gibraltar mount for all my JIBE footage. Hardly any shaking if you recall.

Just a thought.... if you are wearing or have access to an impact vest.
Replace laser pulse cannon with GoPro.... unless you have issues with the local public. In which case, keep the pulse cannon and mount the Go Pro on
the other shoulder.
If you don't have a impact vest or for warm weather Drift makes a commercial shoulder rig that could probably be modified for the GoPro called the " Drift HD Ghost Video Camera Shoulder Mount." Arms are out of the way, but head is on the left or ride side of the picture frame for reference.
Edit: Apparently several companies make shoulder harnesses specifically for the GoPro, but a lot only run over one shoulder.
