Antarctique Solo: Frederic Dion doubly makes history with his kites !

Montreal, December 15, 2014 –

Since last night, the adventurer speaker Frédéric Dion is the first person in the World to have reach the Center of Antarctica (South Pole of Inaccessibility) alone, and in record time. Indeed, only two expeditions reached this point before him, but as a group and less rapidly. This is the team Paul Landry, Henry Cookson, Rupert Longsdon and Rory Sweet who made the trip in 48 days and the team Eric McNair-Landry and Sebastian Copeland in 55 days (see www.explorersweb.com).

The Canadian Athlete left from Novolazarevskaya, the Russian base in Antarctica, on November 10 in kite skiing and faced temperatures below -50 ° Celsius, suffered from frostbites, an often broken sled that finally dismembered, a blizzard with winds of 150 km/h and a fire that almost burned his tent.

Proud of his success, he pushes the audacity and tries another World Premiere by continuing his journey to the South Pole, adding 900km 2100 already traveled. « I still have energy and food for 30 days, I hope to make it to the most! » He says.

Who is Frédéric Dion? Be decorated by the Governor General of Canada to the rescue of 9 Russian skiers in the Alps, survive four days without water, food and equipment in the winter of Lake Mistassini, regain one civilization after being dumped blindfolded in northern Quebec without a map, GPS or food, running 33 marathons in 7 weeks and browse thousands of miles over the ocean are just challenges made by Frédéric Dion. At 37, Frederic gave over 1,000 lectures in the largest networks of Francophonie worldwide. It acts as a spokesperson for the Association des Scouts du Canada.

Congratulations. That is some adventure albit a lonely one to the most desolate point on the most desolate continent and from what i've read (hilarious google translation) he hopes to continue on to the magnetic south pole if I have that right.

I could not see any mention of kites, would you know what he used ?
I still have my Blade 8.5 that was used to cross the Greenland ice sheet back in 2003 and which greatly impressed me ...... I should add, that it was the woman I bought it from that greatly impressed me, as it was her who crossed Greenland. :D

Amazing achievement for sure. Must have been both amazing and a little unnerving at times. Well done.
