Broken chicken loops, anyone?

Broke another one, this time I was on the way and trying for a board off, and ended up both landing flat on the board and simultaneously face-planting...

So, anyone else breaking chicken loops?

I'm thinking that the spreader bar hook is wearing through the PU covering and then either the rope is rotting and just giving out, or it just isn't up to the job.

Checked all my other CLs - all fine except that my most-used Cab bar has holes worn in the tubing... bit worrying.

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Never blew the dyneema loop itself. Have blown apart the safety hardware that the loops are attached to though.

yep , the metal square on FS infinity 1 broke , plenty of wear thru tube for sure, seemingly common. heavier riders with high use it happens

Has the PU gotten stiff from UV exposure?

Where holes have worn through in the PU coating, has it managed to form inward facing "burrs" that are abraiding the dyneema?

Is sand entering the holes in the PU coating and abraiding the dyneema strand?

ATB,
Sam

No, Phree was polite and called me heavy - you're the rude boy who called me fat, Feyd!

I've had the plastic guts of the Infinity 1 break, and the steel loops on the end of the CL snap... Had an Fone snap the body of the CL too but they were famous for doing that.

@Redsky: I've had one hook break right off, two others just break on one side. Let me guess - Dakine?

@Phree: metal square is what?

@Sam: soft, if anything. I thought that the Cab CLs were a lot stiffer... felt thicker walled than the FS PU.

Yes, the burs are facing in... all that might count.

...

So basically, CLs are now consumables for me :o Guess I'll be stocking up on Switch CLs! Ooh time to mod!!

Broke 2 early ones way back. Sand inside the plastic tubing chewed the rope up on one. The other had stitching that came undone under a pretty neoprene cover. Both in jumps.

Scrub seat harness, given to me for free by someone I thought I could trust but later turned out to be an absolute demon in disguise (unrelated). First the leg strap went then the webbing and finally the spreader hook, all within two or three sessions of each other. Nearly killed me.

Not Dakine - I'm shocked!

So it sounds like once there's a hole in the PU, it's a ticking time bomb...
