My second NPW!

Have been waiting for some decent wind to give this a real test but like most everyone else, the wind has been slack in my neighborhood for days now too...and predicted to be for the next week or so.

Last week got just enough light wind to get this to fly almost to zenith, and about 140 deg left to right I guess...
I was really stoked it did pretty well right off the table.
It's a 5.28 using Tom Whites plan.

The secondary lines I tried to get fancy and do the fid thing...actually worked out ok, but boy my fingers tips were sore! (rookie wuss!) The lines in this pic are ~18m, I made a set of shorter lines about 13 feet, and wanted to get pics flying on them, but wind ? There is none to be had right now...:(

WooHoo! I'll be ready when it does!!
:D

Nice build! Looks well balanced... equal tension on the bridles, oh that sky looks epic, just the thing to be filled by a home made kite :D

Wow - nice job. How do you like it compared to the Teega? BTW - the 140 degree wind window sounds about what I got and have seen mentioned elsewhere, in the Teega plans I believe.

Thanks guys!
This one flew a lot better than my Teega at both right/left degrees and zenith.

I did do some minor adjusting to this 9b bridal to help even out the sail tension, but it flew very well straight off the table without any adjustment.

Am still tinkering with the Teega, but I think winds are just too light right now for it to get any decent time in the air.

Its fun when they fly well right away, though sometimes solving a puzzle is fun as well.

Nice! I like the color combination as well. I spliced loops on my 5 & 15 meter lines. I know what you mean about the finger tips.

Soliver, you up for that?
As soon as I recover from rotater surgery I'll be able to fly my bigE NPW.

Thanks you two.
@ssayre - I have had that green for several years, was going to make a sled kite but job work kept getting in the way of my fun, discovered I didn't have enough black left after a rok project so I picked up a few yards from Fly Market. I think I'm going to have a lot of fun with this one...

@Davis- The TW plan I used says it's a 5.28. I would like to have a 7 or so, but I think I will wait till winter now so I can play the rest of the summer when the wind is just right. (Does that ever really happen inland?)
The fly in idea sounds great, would that be the Outer Oregon Beach Extravaganza? Just kidding, it's prolly lots closer to your neighborhood than mine....
Good luck recuperating your shoulder, make sure it's healed fully!!

Thanks Chad, it always is a pleasant surprise when I make a kite and it actually flies.
A friend once told me " you can fly anything, as long as you bridal it right..."

Congrats! Looks nice with a good job on the bridling. Tom's plans make nice flyers right "out of the box".

This Canuck could never make it down to a NPW fly in the states but it's still fun to see the kites online. Got a couple in plans right now, but hay season has put an end to kite season for now.

Yea buddy, I fully understand the 'make hay while the sun shines' thing...
I was a farmer in my previous life, and for many years the fun stuff of summer was crammed into rainy days, Sunday's, evenings if there was any light left, and some things never got done because of harvest pressures...

Thanks, and hope you have some rain free hay days!

Thanks John,
I learned a lot more making this one, and I think it would be fun to try one on a bar like in your video's.

I always envisioned a bar set up like this on a npw. 2 line that flags out to one side. 1oldkid, you've created a monster by showing me how to post pictures. :)

Sean thanks for the pic, I am a firm believer in the old adage " a picture is worth a thousand words", so the more of us monsters putting up pictures the better!

I was wondering how the brake lines might need to be adjusted to make a two line bar work...I know there have been threads here about that, I just need to search for them a bit. Reason is, I am wanting to try one of these NPW's with my kayak. I have bodged together a homemade steerable rudder and am just today ready to test it.
So without further ado, I'm off to get soaking wet!

1oldkid..... it's a Z-bridle you need to search for, if you want a two line only leave the bottom leg off, then it becomes a "Y" bridle if there is such a thing :D
