They are guilty of possession of stolen property, at a minimum (and probably theft, as as well the charges for damaging your property.) Could be a felony. I doubt the Cops will be wanting to go to the mat on investigating all of this, but in all likelihood they should end up in Juvy court with a record (if they don't already have one.) You might well be doing these kids a favor by insisting on prosecuting the matter.

Just kids having fun. I had my kite bike (BMX) stolen a few years ago. Won't see that again. Little buggers.

Maybe I'm old. Maybe things have changed?

When I was young and we got caught with things like " stolen goods " the police would at least turn us over to our parents .

The kids parents no doubt have a better feel about how delinquent their kids may be. If not, they deserve to know.

Of course this was in a different day and age. Maybe the police and parents don't have enough time to follow through ? As it sits these kids feel like they have gotten away with their game. EVEN being busted with it.

You learned a valuable lesson but I fear these kids have learned a very bad one?

( see Dad, I did learn from being punished by you ! R.I.P. ) :saint:

I agree that we grew up in a different age, BR. When we were small, we were taught respect of others property. Not to touch what doesn't belong to you. If caught stealing, we were likely to be brought to our parents for (corporal) punishment, then the person we stole from, to apologize for our deed and often get more punishment suggested by our victim. You are likely right that I should have pressed charges, and if I could have held the parents responsible, for their neglect in teaching their children right from wrong, I would rather do that. I know the neighborhood where they supposedly bought it and it doesn't surprise me
I had posted a reward poster at the 4 corners of main Street, if the kids had seen that, and called saying they found my buggy, should I have had them arrested, or paid the reward?

A lesson well learned will save a young persons life.

Growing up in Kansas we when young were always told that if we stole,
shop lifted etc. that we would end up at the "Kansas State Reformatory for Youth Offenders".

It was an actual place right next to the BIG HOUSE! A huge sandstone and granite monster facility. It looked gruesome and terrifying! We saw the pictures of this dungeon on the walls in the school offices and in the halls. My parents even had one on the wall in the kitchen. :o

Our parents always threatened us that they would send us to Hutchison, Kansas if we didn't get our s#it together and fly right!

Youth court was a place where you had to have an lawyer to get you off or a reduced sentence because they would throw the book at you!
I had to spend one summer mowing yards to pay the lawyers fees back to my Dad and I still got community service from the court. Just took me one time to straighten myself out and walk the straight and narrow line.

This nanny state we live in nowadays just gives a slap on the wrist and lets them go. What a shame.

It's amazing what kids can get away with these days. My dad had his truck stolen (got it back) by some teenagers from a neighbouring town. This was the third vehicle they stole to joyride in that night. A month later the same kids stole another 4 vehicles. Obviously they learned their lesson eh? According to the police these four kids did $200,000 grand in damages in 2 months. But they're all minors, so their not even allowed to release the names. Such a wonderful system we have these days.

Lots of the kids are getting bad feedback these days.
Check out microaggressions and see how it is being applied to even college kids.
Soon teachers will not even be able to give them a grade much less putting it on a curve where 1/30 gets an A.

I wonder who is missing a wheelchair?

Cool that you got the buggy back...

This has got me thinking about my buggies. My Apexx would cost over 4 grand to replace and the hard core setup would be about the same. So I called the local police Dept and asked a few questions about them if they were stolen. I was told it would be grand theft as an expensive car or airplane. So after talking to the insurance company about coverage and replacement if stolen, I decided to buy an AK-47 and a pit bull. Only have to call the police to clean up the remains.
