Doran Beach this weekend
Heading to Doran Beach this weekend (Bodega Bay, CA). Looks like 10-15mph winds all weekend, although maybe rain later Sat and most of Sun.

Doran beach for sure is worth checking out.I've been there month ago and from my observation it is perfect for south wind ,sand is nicely hard packed
and You probably want to go when tide is below 3'.Payed $5 on gate and ranger will direct You to east side of the beach.I saw there very nice tides
(pipes).
Cheers

Divadrois - I fly either at the school field at Harper Junior High on E Covell (if the wind is good then it is always clean since there are no trees
to the north or south), Grasslands Park a few miles south of Davis on Mace Bld, occasionally Nugget Fields by Wildhorse (off of Pole Line going out
towards Woodland), and sometimes in the summer at Community Park (it would be a great location but I always regret going out there since the
surrounding trees in all locations make the wind real choppy and unpredicatable).
Doran this weekend was aaaawweessomme! Saturday afternoon was overcast with plenty of rain showers passing through but the wind (20-25mph on my
windmeter) was coming off the sea at an angle to go screaming down the beach in one direction (my GPS turned off but I think I was at least doing 30)
and get all the way back with only several tacks back and forth. Saturday night mind you (we were camping in our trailer) it was storming like crazy -
massive downpours sounded like buckets of water were just being thrown at our trailer! It was pretty stormy all night.
Sunday morning it was raining early but then cleared up by around 10am - patchy blue sky, no rain for rest of the day. Wind was 15-20mph up until mid
afternoon, then it started dropping off. I had one awesome session in the morning Sunday - the wind was coming off the land through at a funny angle
across the beach, meaning whatever direction down the beach you went you ending up tacking back and forth - it was hard to get some good runs in. I
ended up going right along the beach to the far end by the entrance to the harbor, and at that point the wind was at an ok angle to do some fast
reaches across the wind (the beach is a large 'C' shaped bay for anyone who hasn't seen it, so whatever the wind angle you can find part of it that
will work for you).
All in all a good trip with good winds, if you don't mind getting on the waterproofs to brave the rain showers. Flew almost every kite I had over the
course of the weekend: started with the Skytiger40 (3.7m) on Saturday and was massively overpowered so spent rest of the day with the Quadrifoil Q2002
(2m) which in the strong wind was awesome fun. Started Sunday with the Q2002 but wasn't enough so spent the rest of the morning on the 40. Later
afternoon for my last trip out started on my 4.5 Century but the wind had died down by around 4pm-5pm, so tried with the Skytiger Hi60 but it wasn't
even strong enough at that point down by the harbor entrance to roll along for a while, so called it a day.
Saw only a couple of people with single lines kites, and a couple of guys flying a stack of 3 Flexifoil Stackers on Sunday, but other than that the
beach was pretty empty all weekend!!
